As we left the apartment to head down to the waterfront on Total Eclipse Day 2024, we observed this beautiful full solar ring. Luckily the clouds would remain thin allowing us to witness totality later in the day.

This slightly longer exposure shows a little more corona. The prominences are still quite visible. Some structure is starting to be visible in the corona, following lines of the magnetic field.
We are lucky to live in Carbondale, where the 2017 and 2024 eclipse path formed the "X". We are at the point where the two paths crosses.
In under 7 years, I didn't have to travel to see totality, whereas the solar eclipse came knocking at my door. The least I could do is get some nice gear to photograph its beauty! Please enjoy the experience with me!
In Toronto, the solar eclipse was 99.5% of totality. The clouds moved out for partial then completely obscured for about 20 minutes before and after. Sigh. But I had my eclipse glasses and saw the biggest bite of the sun that I've seen since I was a very young child.
Since my camera is broken, I had only my iPhone 13 Mini. But it caught the colour shifts in the clouds and the partial eclipsed sun before and after peak. It didn't capture the darkness at all; so I photographed the bluebells with a -2.00 exposure adjustment to compensate for the long exposure the iPhone insisted on.
The birds singing changed remarkably from a lot at the start to very little by peak. The air chilled to freezing at peak. The cold dark lasted maybe a minute or two. It brightened quicker than it darkened.
Edited a 7 shot bkt via Russell Preston Brown method, version 2. Still getting some vertical banding in the outer corona though the plasma loops near the solar surface are enhanced.

6 minutes before peak 99.5% totality. The clouds obscured it!

Played with the image taken at 1442. It's easier to see the eclipse in this one.

The corona disappears somewhat when shrouded by clouds, however the prominences become a bit clearer.
The sun is reemerging from behind the moon. I again added the filters to the camera. This and the other pics were taken in Urbana, Ohio, at Freshwater Farms. #TotalEclipse2024
