On the descent into Middleton in Teesdale on the Brough road and just above the hamlet of Bowbank, this tree topped Bronze Age burial mound makes quite an impression. The plantation of pine trees are a Victorian addition by the local landowner as is the well constructed dry stone wall that surrounds the hill top and encloses the trees. The structure is, according to legend, free of wind and it is reported that locals are in the habit of scattering ashes hereabouts.
The Bronze Age burial mound is reportedly the last resting place of an Iron Age chieftain, a Briganti gentleman called Prince Caryn. A powerful and influential chap to have his burial mound constructed a few hundred years before his birth.

I think this is an Oak Egger moth seen at Forvie NNR in Aberdeenshire.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lasiocampa quercus, the Oak Eggar, is a common moth of the family Lasiocampidae found in Europe, including Britain and Ireland. It feeds on a variety of plant species (mainly heather and bilberry), and may develop over two years in higher latitudes, where it may be known as the Northern eggar. Its suffix quercus refers to the fact that its cocoon generally resembles an acorn, not that its primary food source is oak.
Okay, so it's a little bit windy out today :)
I couldn't stop thinking about that spiral quilt in the "Infinite Variety" show - and I had this color bundle that I picked up with Kelly. So here's what we've got:
The top is DONE! It's also GIGANTIC - somewhere around 78" or so. I had to add a wee little quarter-sized circle in the center because the center seams are UNBEARABLE - there are 48 seams in there. Other than that, I'm happy with it so far. I'll be heading out this afternoon to get some grey fabric for the backing, and I'll be handquilting it - matching colors, following the spirals out along the corners. I don't know what I'm going to do with the white corner parts yet.
Wheeee!

Hoar frost (also called radiation frost or hoarfrost or pruina) refers to the white ice crystals, loosely deposited on the ground or exposed objects, that form on cold clear nights when heat is lost into the open sky causing objects to become colder than the surrounding air. A related effect is flood frost or frost pocket[2] which occurs when air cooled by ground-level radiation losses travels downhill to form pockets of very cold air in depressions, valleys, and hollows. Hoar frost can form in these areas even when the air temperature a few feet above ground is well above freezing. Nonetheless the frost itself will be at or below the freezing temperature of water...~ Wikipedia.
Adult bald eagle very high atop a tree gazing down into the refuge in the glow of sunrise. Had its eye on something for a long time by never went down to get it whatever it was. 362 bald eagles on the refuge that day, 141 adult, 221 immature. They were everywhere! Not always in photo distance but amazing to see, hoping more come.
Went to Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge about 90 miles from us when I saw their newest count showed 362 bald eagles and 1438 trumpeter swans, as well as other misc. migrating wildlife. Sorry for so many photos, no need to comment, just saving a few taken to my album. Hope to make it back if possible.
UPDATE: A RECORD NUMBER OF 661 BALD EAGLE WERE THERE 12/15/20 BEATING THE OLD RECORD OF 476. WISH I COULD HAVE MADE IT THERE BUT COULDN'T.

The change in seasons start slowly like this tree with a red top, soon enough all it's leaves will be red
💖✨ *Elor Energy, Baby!* ✨💖
When I slipped into the Elor Top by Newphe, I knew I wasn’t just getting dressed—I was making a *statement*. Think late 90s flirty glam meets Y2K baddie, all cinched up with a whisper of millennial edge. This top is *serving* body with a plunging neckline, ruched drawstring detail, and that effortlessly snatched waist moment we all dream about.
The fabric hugs just right—soft, sculpted, and made to flaunt what your mama gave you. It’s got that sultry casual-chic vibe, like I just hopped off my pastel cruiser bike, lip gloss poppin’, ready to own the sidewalk like it’s my personal runway.
Styling cues? I’m talking:
💅 Corset-core influence* with the cinched waist drawstring—because who doesn’t love a little waist drama?
🎀 And let’s not forget the *vibrant pop colors*, straight out of a Harajuku daydream.

Two Weirton Steel S2’s pull several cars of ingot molds out of one of the mill buildings in Weirton, West Virginia. For those who think that today’s post-9/11 security measures are new, the steel industry carried a WWII anti-espionage policy that gave them a reputation that steered railfans from setting foot on the company’s property. The circumstances around this photo are a prime example. After shooting this scene from a state highway bridge, we turned around to see a Weirton Steel security officer parked next to us. Despite our being on a public sidewalk, he insisted that we leave without further photography, or he would take us in. Although he had no legal ground, we chose not to risk half our day dealing with a small-time cop and move on.
In the middle of the lush Icelandic countryside lies this great 60m tall waterfall that is to my opinion one of the most beautiful in Iceland
If you wish to talk to the gods, climb a mountain. You are that much closer to them, and they just might hear you from up there.

The view up South West Rocks Creek from the top of the hump in the next image. Many of these creeks and rivers have very winding estuaries with lots of wetlands and islands.....no crocs though, too far south thankfully! The bridge across the creek also has a fishing jetty where you can cast into deeper blue and pristine water.
