Return to the Western world! We spend three weeks in Croatia, and sample the joys of Central Europe by the Adriatic Sea.

Zagreb is thoroughly modern and beautiful, with a livelier local crowd, fresh markets, and more hidden gems than Prague or Budapest. The Plitvice Lakes are one of the most awesome national parks we have visited so far. And Dubrovnik is like stepping back into the 1400s, all rocky hillside, stone streets, towering city walls, and Mediterranean blue sea. We would love to come back here.

Anybody remember that scene from The Hobbit where the trolls turn to stone when the sun comes up? It's an old Icelandic story that Tolkien lifted. These two giant basalt monoliths are also purported to be trolls turned to stone on the west side of the country. I guess they just fled the rising sun as far as they could, but just couldn't make it any farther before they got caught at the shore by a few errant photons. Stupid trolls - too dumb to learn to swim. And then the Icelanders went on their merry way and built a few utility poles betwixt them. A very practical lot, those Icelanders.

Organized a photo shoot with my Tolkien group's cosplayers and my photo group Lomomanila. We used a bunch of toycameras in this shoot, but we took shots with digital cameras as well.

These are the first few shots, all from my digital camera.
