French toast or English toast?
French toast is a dish made of sliced bread soaked in beaten eggs and typically milk or cream, then pan fried. Alternative names and variants include "eggy bread", "Bombay toast", "gypsy toast" and "poor knights" (of Windsor).
its old and not French:
The earliest known reference to French toast is in the Apicius, a collection of Roman recipes in Latin dating to the 1st century CE, where it is described as simply aliter dulcia 'another sweet dish'. The recipe says to "Break fine white bread, crust removed, into rather large pieces which soak in milk [and beaten eggs] fry in oil, cover with honey and serve".
A 14th-century German recipe uses the name Arme Ritter 'poor knights', a name also used in English and the Nordic languages. Also in the 14th-century, Taillevent presented a recipe for "tostées dorées". Italian 15th-century culinary expert Martino da Como offers a recipe.

This is a treat for me! I used Turkey Bacon, a Pasture/Free Range Egg and a piece of my Sourdough Bread, Toasted. It was a nice healthy meal that was low in fat and high in protein.
A strange name for a cat and he just adores mice, hard to watch the bizarre death ritual that this little rodent has to endure. The first few times I witnessed this I tried to rescue the mouse concerned, but I guess the cat is just being a cat, and that is the long and the short of it.
Toasting (Belgian beer, natch) to our new house and new city at our makeshift dining room table (since we don't have one yet...). Farrell's brilliant idea to put a closet shelf on top of the ottoman. Voila! A table. He's so resourceful. :-)
Pics of yarn to come soon! I have been spinning (amongst the plethora of boxes)!
I also baked some nice bread today which I now sampled toasted with marmelade and homemade blackcurrant jam

My mother made eggs and toast like this sometimes when I was a child. She cut the center out of the bread and pan-fried it with the egg dropped into the hole. I haven't had one of these in years, and I don't think it is quite the same as my mother's. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have had to try as many times as I did to do one without breaking the yolk.
If I had enough eggs and enough time left, I'd keep trying until I got a better shot than this. As it is...things to do, places to go.
And of course it has only just now hit me that I could have just taken a shot of a plastic Easter egg out in the yard...

ODC-Rough
I toasted my Gluten Free Bread and it was quite rough once toasted. I added some Red Raspberries from our Thornless Raspberry Bush. It was yummy!
The Florida sun will roast, toast and bake without warning, and will prey on unwary snowbirds with pale skins. :D

The end of an evening with Bingo Little and Aesop, making toast art for the way of the toaster. These are my favourites of the ones I made.
Can you believe I've never actually had avocado toast? Yeh, I know ...it's been around a while...but, I don't always succumb to fads... and, I figured it was just a 'thing'..
But, it appears it's still around.... so, ....I had this avocado ..... and decided I had enough motivation and energy today to give a toast a go.....
I've been down and out with a major sinus infection ..it is still not rectified... but, at least today I can actually breathe through both nostrils ... mostly... but, the left side of my face is still pretty bad ... very sore and tender and well, I ain't better yet.
Anyway...I didn't want plain old avocado on a piece of toast....nope. So, I sautéed some onions, with some little bits of ham and some bacon bits... tossed in some halved grape tomatoes at the end and put that in the oven to wait for my egg to be ready.
Toast... mashed avocado with a drizzle of oil and sprinkle of salt.. a lovely softly fried/basted egg with a creamy yolk, and a dollop of my sautéed onions.... oh, man!!!
I'm doing that again next Sunday.....when I hope my sense of smell and taste will be totally back in action and I will actually be able to taste the whole thing.....oh, yum!
Next time I'm having special coffee with it too ....

Super luxurious kaya toast at the Shangri-La Hotel in Orchard. $12 bucks and worth it. Butter tasted like a fine French butter, kaya was perfect, and two different kinds of bread.
For those not familiar with this, kaya toast is a traditional Singaporean breakfast, usually served with a poached egg and coffee or tea. Kaya is a type of local jam made with fragrant pandan leaves, palm sugar and egg. Making it is an art form and there are many varieties of it across Southeast Asia. I fell in love with it when I first arrived here and enjoy it quite often.
