In one frame from today’s K2 dive a snapshot of fish diversity: red grouper, toadfish graysby, and lionfish. Shot was under shaded ledge and had to be digitally enhanced. (Photo Credit: CIOERT, taken from UCONN's K2)
This guy was waaaay on the high end of midshipman size. I want to say over a foot, but judging size underwater can be difficult.
This is a Toadfish. He's a little too big to be inside that pipe, but he was there anyway. Toadfish have very sharp teeth, do not stick your hand near their mouth. You will regret it!

黑斑叉鼻魨
學名:Arothron nigropunctatus (Bloch and Schneider)
英文名:Black-spotted toadfish
俗名:規魚、狗頭、污斑河魨
形態特徵:
全體密佈小棘,體色呈淺灰色,並散布不規則之小黑斑,但偶有全身呈黃色者,吻與鰓孔為黑色,肛門上有一黑
斑,胸鰭基部為黑色,體長可達 25 cm。
分佈:分佈於台灣珊瑚礁,琉球以南至南太平洋海域。
毒性:
含河魨毒,皮膚屬強毒,肌肉、卵巢、肝臟和腸屬弱毒。

The fish is an Oyster Toadfish (Opsanus Tau). I shot this at the Point Pleasant Canal in NJ. The water is approximately 20 feet deep and was running at 3.5-4 knots. I couldn't get close enough for a higher quality shot but I liked this one anyway.
Endemic to Cozumel I felt very lucky to get this shot! All I can say is this fish is named appropriately~!
