Early Calthorpe Estate villa of circa 1820-30. Grecian stucco symmetrical
3 bay elevation on 2 storeys. Plinth, shallow rustication to tall ground
floor, struck into round arched panels containing windows. First floor with
band. Cornice and blocking course with raised centre panel. Hipped slate
roof, brick chimney stacks. Revealed glazing bar sashes. Recessed entrance
pilaster framed with frieze of Soanian incised pattern, modillion cornice.
Set back 2 storey former coach house to left with hipped lean-to slate roof,
now with through archway. Small pediment gabled wing of one storey to right,
(perhaps former billiard room) with bracket moulded arched tripartite window.

This circus has long since left town.

I've recently seen a public convenience marked up "To Let" (in Ebbw Vale), why not these pre-Elizabethan phone boxes? Described as "a retail opportunity - Coffee, Frappuccino, Ice Cream, Souvenirs, Hot Dogs, Confectionary (sic.), Shoe Shine" etc." If you are interested, ring the number given! Suitable for "small businessmen".
Thought I might check out the latest on Newhall Square.
Not too much changes other than new hoardings, and one corner over grown with grass and plants.

As of late May 2017 most of the scaffolding has come down.
Seen from the no 1 bus heading towards Edgbaston.
Heading along Eastgate Street in Stafford. I went from Market Street towards North Walls (with a brief look up Martin Street).
A pub called Lord Nelson at 31 Eastgate Street.
The pub is to let by Fleurets. It was Nelsons at the Lord Nelson. Pool Room. Music Bar. Also known as The Lord Nelson Vaults.
Another example of Brutalist architecture is Princegate House in Doncaster.
The concrete showing signs of wear and the emptiness of most of the building adding to a melancholy feel
-but wait 'Whats Going On in There' proclaims the sign. It actually refers to the new 'Village at Waterdale' a change of name and (Hopefully) fortune of the 1960s Waterdale Centre, itself a burden lagging over from the 1960s.
Additonal building work is taking place which might help block the view of this tower block from shoppers and Cultural Quarter visitors.
Cepaea nemoralis (brown lipped snail) in a large variety of colours. A used snail lot - all one careful owner. Found in the Pulpit hill area, Buckinghamshire.
South Denes Great Yarmouth. The South Denes area of Great Yarmouth was until the early 2oth Century where Great Yarmouth Races were held. South Denes was home to a World War One airfield used by the Royal Naval Air Service and from 1918 the Royal Air Force. After the war the airfield was used for commercial flights until the 1930s. Later in the 20th Century it was where South Denes Caravan Camp was. South Denes is also where the fish finger was developed at the Birdseye Factory.
