Historia de la Conquista de México, por don Antonio de Solís y Rivadeneira:
Impresa esta obra en Madrid en 1783 en la imprenta de don Antonio de Sancha.
Don Antonio de Solís nació en España, en Alcalá de Henares el 18 de Julio de 1610 y murió el 19 de Abril de 1686. Según sus biógrafos dio pronto muestra de una inteligencia extraordinaria. Hizo los estudios de Ciencias Mayores (Retórica, Filosofía y Cánones; y luego Ciencias Morales y Políticas). Pasando el tiempo, después de hacer méritos suficientes, la Reina Madre le nombró: Cronista Mayor de las Indias. Ya de 57 años se ordenó Sacerdote.
Su “Historia de la Conquista” evidencia su fe en la existencia de Dios; pues, en bastantes ocasiones insinúa con insistencia en la Providencia de Dios en las escaramuzas de Hernán Cortés en México. Hace hincapié en el fervor religioso de Hernán Cortés, quién antes de cada batalla oía misa acompañado de sus soldados y hacía la labor de predicador, muy insistente, por cierto, con los caciques que iba sojuzgando.
Su Historia empieza con el relato contextual de las situaciones políticas existentes en España y en las Islas Caribeñas recién descubiertas antes la Conquista de México y durante el relato hace también las pausas que él considera convenientes para explicar algunos relatos contextuales, para el mejor entendimiento del lector. Él se basa en los escritos de historiadores más antiguos como Francisco López de Gómara, quién no fue a América, pero conoció y convivió mucho tiempo con Hernán Cortés y fue su capellán, así, pues, se infiere que conoció el relato de boca del mismo Cortés; y también de la “Historia Verdadera” de Bernal Díaz del Castillo, quien formó parte del equipo de Cortés durante la conquista; y la obra de Antonio de Herrera y Tordecillas; y también los escritos del mismo Hernán Cortés.
Su relato es exquisito, pues relata detalles de todo tipo, que ayudan muchísimo a la imaginación a formarse un cuadro cómo película que causa admiración y, en mi caso, hasta carcajadas, durante la lectura. Y, cuando lo considera necesario, hace mención de la opinión o divergencias del mismo relato de los otros historiadores.
Si bien es menester mencionar su fervor religioso, se nota su esfuerzo por ser objetivo en el relato, aunque eso, en mi opinión, es imposible.
Conocer la verdad es algo que muchos exigen, pero es un platillo que sólo degustan los que con el esfuerzo la buscan y encuentran después de invertir muchísimo tiempo en ello.
Yo, pues, humildemente, recomiendo esta obra a todo amante de la verdad.

This is the Phoenix figure with her torso arched back a notch.
I wanted to do this here to show the paint for the tip of the Phoenix emblem extended up underneath, so it still looks continuous if she's bending over backwards. That's a nice touch I think a lot of places would have forgotten or done a bad job on.
It looks a little awkward as the paint doesn't quite match up, but that's always an issue with action figures, and not so much a complaint.

The sun had just come out but these chairs outside a Portland restaurant were still tipped to prevent the rain from puddling in their seats.
-So many trees are cut down and destroyed to make room for "progress". Roads, houses, businesses... Then the poor squirrels and birds don't have homes, the raccoons and possums don't have shelter anymore, and all those critters come to live in our backyards where there's still a little tree left... Then they are banished as pests. It breaks my heart to see them on the side of the road, no longer having a safe place to be. I don't believe that's the meaning of 'survival of the fittest'.
Earth Tip Number 3:
So plant a tree, feed a squirrel, fight to keep your parks, and BUY RECYCLED MATERIALS!
