Completed "Tipping Point" mural for LOCALLY SOURCED show opening this friday.
Text from the Locally Sourced website:
"Tipping Point, a mural commissioned for LOCALLY SOURCED to be installed in the exhibition gallery, comments on the past few years of changes and developments in Greenmount West, Barclay, and Charles North—three neighborhoods that comprise the Station North Arts and Entertainment District. A developer’s unraveling master plan blocks visual representations of the past identities of the neighborhood."
This Detroit powered International ACCO tipper was captured as it headed for the local tip East of Kwinana in Western Australia

A tip of the hat to Elite Classic Cars whose owner, Clint Knight, has been so gracious in allowing me to photograph Elite's inventory over repeated visits. The dealership is located in Glenarm, Illinois, just south of Springfield on Historic U.S. Route 66.

I've, so far, found 3 types of markers that work well with the EggBot.
1: The Sharpie Ultra-Fine Permanent Marker is the suggested brand of marker for EggBot - These boast a whopping 39 colors! These each seem to have their own quirks, but can be summarized like this: The red-based colors tend to run more readily - the lighter ones worse. Plan your plots accordingly - less is more!
2: The Sharpie Extra-Fine Metallic Oil-Based Paint Markers work great, but not with other markers. The body of the marker is thicker than the Ultra-Fine series – this prevents them from being used as accents. Not only are they difficult to line up, they also flow very readily and pull the pigments of the other markers. These run around $5 a piece.
3: For a truly FINE design – try the Martha Stewart Crafts .1mm Writing Pen. These markers come in only a few colors, and are about twice as much as the Ultra-Fine Sharpies. The marker body is pretty close to the Ultra-Fine Sharpies, so they work well for detail work in conjunction with those. These markers are very light and need a little extra weight to make them work right – it helps to put the cap on the butt of the marker. *Update: New testing has shown that these work well on the metallic oil-based and metallic standard Sharpie markers.

Repetition, with variation.
I'm amused by the angles these buildings have settled to, though I expect it doesn't thrill the building owners. I wonder if they alter the floors to keep them level.
I loved seeing all the bikes in Amsterdam - especially folks in work clothes. Mostly they rode upright bikes - without the prevalence of fancier bikes we see in the US. And everyone warned of bike theft. Perhaps the latter explains the former.
And bikes were everywhere. There was a giant bike parking lot by the rail station. Hooray!
I rented for a day and rode north to see the countryside. My most striking memory is of bike riders on a trail below giant modern windmills.

Lesser Thorn-tipped Longhorn Beetle (Pogonocherus hispidus) found on a fencepost in the Finglandrigg Wood Nature Reserve, 29 May 20.
I've seen so many Greater Thorn-tipped Longhorn Beetles in the Carlisle area over the past few years that I stopped recording them some time ago. However, this is the first time I've found a P. hispidus as opposed to a P. hispidulus! In fact I discovered two of them at different locations, but only managed to get a decent shot of the second one (Photo 1), which I also managed to collect. It was later measured with my calibrated microscope at about 5mm in length (Photo 2).
NBN Atlas shows that the vast majority of Pogonocherus hispidus sightings have been made in the southern half of the UK; additionally iRecord currently has no entries for Cumbria.
Tip Top Tailors, Richmond Street. They moved out of here in 1929. The Tip Top sign appears to be superimposed on another one. As of 2025, this is still visible.
