Times Square, NYC

Every five years on the anniversary of the end of World War II, the Times Square Alliance holds a Times Square Kiss-In where hundreds of people re-enact the legendary lip-lock between a U.S. sailor and nurse, captured forever on the cover of LIFE Magazine.

This year, the event took place on the Broadway Plaza between 43rd St. & 44th St with an incredible turn out and plenty of sunshine.

The sign says "ahlan wa sahlan," meaning "welcome." It's part of a series of signs in Times Square in NYC. They all have the subtitle of "crossroads of culture."

Every year as the clock nears midnight on December 31, the eyes of the world turn once more to the dazzling lights and bustling energy of Times Square. Anticipation runs high. New Year's Eve at the symbolic center of New York City has become more than just a celebration - it's a global tradition.

The world holds its breath, and cheers as the clocks strike twelve.
