Prudence, about 1475
Glazed terracotta with traces of gilding
by Andrea della Robia, Florence, 1435-1525
>An allegory of Prudence, the figure has a double-faced head that looks both forward and back: a young woman looking down into the mirror in her hand, while an elderly man looks up in the opposite direction, his beard merging into her hair. She also holds a snake, a biblical symbol of wisdom. These attributes encourage the viewer to learn from the past as well as look into oneself.<<

Timeless for a few reasons -
1. this subway system is so old.. dating back to the very late 1800's. It looks like it as well. And smells like it.
2. It doesn't matter what time of day it is. When you're down there, it's irrelevent. Day. Night. Weekend. Monday morning. It's all the same.
3. You don't need a train schedule. Just stand and wait. No need to look at your watch. A train will be there any minute. Even if it's not your train, it can get usually shuttle you on to the train that you need, a few stops later. .
