‘Twas a dark and stormy Saturday afternoon at Pataphysical Studios, but the doctors braved the pouring rain and came out in droves to make art together.

We celebrated Dr. Figurine’s birthday in style, with a nice apple pie and small gifts ranging from a DVD on how to play the theremin to a handmade wooden box and stock in the Mind Shaft Society.

We all sat around our Time Machine framework and had stimulating discussions about our next pataphysical invention -- as well as our many related maker art projects:

• Dr. Rindbrain demonstrated the new remote-controlled lights for the Time Machine

• Dr. Fabio had his head examined after a rough encounter with a rose bush

• Dr. Canard prepared electronic supplies for students of the City of the Future class

• Drs. Figurine and Heatshrink started building a theremin together

• Drs. Really and Canard displayed an arted-up jug of ‘pataphysical water

• Drs. Canard and Fabio used a Ouija board to reach out to the spirit of Alfred Jarry

• Dr. Rindbrain painted another pair of shoes while discussing art with Dr. Zboon

• Dr. Fabio proposed ideas for the Time Machine controller, with the Ouija board as an example

• Drs. Figurine lit up the pataphysical flag pole with El Wire

A fine time was had by all and we kept learning from each other for the greater good.

Microscale De Lorean as seen in Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future trilogy.

The standard version of this set/model is missing details in the rear reactor/engine area with large 'voids' present either side of the light brick.

I've added in additional details, as see in the movie/replica/model versions of the Back to the Future Time Machine. See my MOC page on Rebrickable for more information.

On a peaceful Saturday afternoon, the good doctors at Pataphysical Studios made art together and explored new dimensions across space and time.

This week, we worked on our Time Machine and our new Dada exhibit:

• Dr. Canard made a birthday card for Dr. Pozar (a.k.a. Heatshrink)

• Dr. Figurine soldered more electronic parts for her theramine

• Drs. Fabio and Zboon experimented with Time Machine controls and seating

• Drs. Rindbrain and Igor discussed the roof and structure of the Time Machine

• Dr. Really presented the latest plans for the Dada exhibit, dressed as a Renaissance man

• We all discussed what Dada means to us in the 21st century

• Dr. Tout d’Suite reviewed Dr. Figurine’s picture book about Dada with Dr. Canard

• Drs. Fabio and Canard discussed adding quotes about time to their Crazy Clock

• Dr. Canard played with ‘Pataphysical Talismans of different sizes, laser cut by Dr. Fabio

To quote artist Man Ray, “Dada is a state of mind”. That state of mind was very much alive at the Pataphysical Studios this week.

Ok -- so here's the proof that i had this -i don't know what to call it - body (back then i was called Dolly Parton, much to my shame and dismay) back when i was in high school.

i typically do not pose sideways because i'm so disproportionate, but front ways i look pretty normal (for my wardrobe shots). p.s. this is POST reduction!

I haven't always looked like this -- in between -- I did some major damage to my body as a result of trying to hide after some things that happened to me (i'm writing about it -- the downfall and the journey back).

loving myself means that I will no longer feel bad because i look like .... as one person who is close to me so blatantly told me -- like a living blow up doll -- great, that was a hard blow to take -- but you know what. fuck it -- this is who i am, no more apologies, no more hiding, no more punishing myself. There is more to me than what you see, i spent a lot of years not letting anyone see "this", forcing them to see the inside and love me for that, but i'm not scared of the outside anymore - i can handle her.

another layer of the onion peeled....

p.s. please do not take away fashion brownie points for my little house on the prairie dress and ....shudder, cringe... those anklets and jellies!!!!!

We are building a Time Machine at Pataphysical Studios. It will feature several animated time displays, such as this first one, created by Drs. Rindbrain and Heatshrink.

This small screen can play now videos with sounds, such as a time montage of spinning clocks and scrolling calendars, to be used as transitions to create the illusion of time-travel. It is powered by a Raspberry Pi.

First sketches and models for the Time Machine, a new interactive art project created by Pataphysical Studios.

In this brainstorm session, each team member sketched out their own ideas, then discussed them with the group, to design our upcoming time travel experience together.

Next, we plan to create a composite design with some of these ideas, to integrate them into a single blueprint.

To be continued ...

Lately my eyes have become a camera and when I go out just trying to imagine what it would be photographs that I see. So, driving, I thought this picture.

info:

The camera is mounted on a tripod between the two front seats. I used a timer control to make the shots.

This project is to improve my photographic technique, your comments are very welcome!

I have another flickr profile www.flickr.com/photos/1000io where I will upload more photos out of the project.

This is my rendition of the Time Tunnel complex. Time Tunnel was another Irwin Allen series of the sixtes along with land of the Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Lost in Space. It involved a scientist who invented the time tunnel to travel through time. Being convinced it works, he sneaks into the complex at night and tries it on himsef. When the crew finds out, they send his friend after him. But there is a glitch...they can't bring them back. The show followed the weekly exploits of the two guys as they traveled forward and backward in time being assisted by the crew at the complex which included actress Lee Meriweather.

Spring is back at Pataphysical Studios, where we spent another lovely Saturday afternoon, making art together and exploring new dimensions across space and time.

This week, we developed our Time Machine and started work on our new Dada exhibit:

• Dr. Rindbrain showed a new mockup for the Time Machine viewing frame

• Dr. Max and his family came to experience the magic of the art garden

• Dr. Canard posed by the pataphysical flag and sanded her music box

• Dr. Phylora picked up her new pataphysical badge and caught up with the group

• Dr. Truly brought blank canvases and art ideas for the new Dada exhibit she is producing

• Dr. Tout d’Suite picked the Alfred Jarry canvas as her art project for the Dada exhibit

• Dr. Fabio picked the Gidouille canvas and worked on the Crazy Clock prototype

• Dr. Canard picked the Eye/Hand canvas as her art project for the Dada exhibit

• Dr. Figurine picked the Apostrophe canvas and worked on her theramine

• Dr. Skidz picked the Ubu canvas and pitched a duck phone for the Dada exhibit

• The Queen of the Desert shared her research on Dada and time travel

• Drs. Rindbrain, Really and Igor installed the back wall for the Time Machine

• Dr. Fabio showed Dr. Canard how to shoot a video interview with Dr. Rindbrain

• Drs. Zboon, Fabio and Figurine discussed a puppet show for the Dada Exhibit

Making art with friends brings new light into our lives and brightens the world around us.

I got the second book in Michael Paul Smith's fictional Elgin Park series. This is a 2.5 lbs tome. Even better than the first one!

This one has a lot of how-to and details of his craft as a model builder (and model photographer).

You really have to study details to realize that these are actually model's (1:24 scale) of his vision of the ideal of the 50's and early 60's.

I dont know if reincarnation works - but if it does, I want to come back in 1:24's scale, sitting in an Impala convertible outside the Ice Cream Parlor on a warm, humid evening.

If you like old cars.scale models and photography - these are must have books.

You can see more of his work on Flickr under the tag Michael Paul Smith - and be forewarned - you will start thinking in terms of starting to build similar sets from your past!

Pataphysical Studios is building a Time Machine for our next art exhibit. On a balmy spring afternoon, Drs. Rindbrain and Fabio created more visualizations of what the Time Machine might look like.

We sketched out several ideas for the inside and outside walls, for discussion purposes. On each side of the main screen, we designed round portholes through which we could interact with our guests -- or show scenes from the past or future. Behind each porthole would be a magic box that could feature artifacts from distant times -- or the head of a historical figure, projected onto a ‘life cast’. The rest of the inside walls would be used for other interactive artworks such as the Crazy Clock, which sings quotes about time when you press its big green button.

On the outside walls, we sketched out a Face Box that you could stick your head in to get your picture taken. It would include an Infinity Mirror made of LED strips cycling through the colors of the rainbow, with a camera at the end of this light tunnel. We also sketched out where time wonderboxes could be placed on the side walls, proposing that the left wall focus on the past and the right wall on the future. A graphic timeline across both walls could support that idea.

It was a productive meeting and we look forward to presenting these ideas to our fellow doctors at the next Time Machine meeting.

machine, a slide-tube to catch our best

day together, and let us start again in a june-rhyme fun.

designed by W. A. Dwiggins, Random House, 1931.

Using the shell of a broken 1986 Mac Plus 1MB sourced from eBay - I filled the innards with a 6 hard drives (2.3TB total) and an intel atom motherboard. This is now my time machine server. I didn't have space for the screen so it's got a 10.4" digital picture frame to replace that. It's getting wifi soon as well. Not actually difficult to do, surprisingly.

Parts included -

Pci raid card [driver]

Plus some drives, sata cables and a power supply from scrap I had eating up space in a cupboard

[Edit 18/01/2011 added wifi thanks to this adaptor sourced from eBay]

No commentary needed on this one-- it's Doc Brown's time machine. In RC car form. Bad. Ass.

The 'coral' supports are literally paper mache, and very fragile. In contrast to the Torchwood set, the level of detail is much less, as some of these shots reveal.

Each Saturday, the good doctors make art together at Pataphysical Studios.

Here are this week’s notable art projects:

• Drs. Really and Rindbrain created a banner for an art protest, ‘Traffic Jam Valley’

• Dr. Rindbrain developed ‘Magical Thought’, an illuminated wonderbox

• Dr. Fiske dropped by to record an impromptu video of Pataphysical Studios

• Dr. Figurine showed off the head and body of her Owl for our Dada Exhibit

• Dr. Fabio presented composite sketches for the Time Machine, based on team designs

• Dr. Truly demonstrated how to share videos on social media while lying flat on your back

• Dr. Canard discussed her Dada Mobile with Dr. Zboon, who then created a greeting card

• Dr. Fabio showed off a new circle design for the Crazy Clock, discarding its old frame

We then went on a nice walk to Oakwood Valley. On the way, Dr. Rindbrain re-discovered himself and nearby dimensions on a neighborhood pole. We then played in a secret grove of bay trees, deep in the heart of the valley.
