I've grown to appreciate indoor photographs. The over- and under-exposed, the light that is too blue, too white, too yellow, too red and, coming soon, too green. If this had been one of my first portraits, I would have been tempted to 'fix' the colours. I'm glad I saved it long enough to embrace the lush orange of the light. Watercolour for JKPP.

This was the first picture I took during yesterday's Fred Astaire showcase. Tim's student and partner in this dance happens to be a medical doctor.
There is a bit of a story about this image and how and when it ended up on Flickr. I came home with about 300 images from this shoot, of which 7 had been uploaded by the time I left for church today. When I returned home, expecting to add a couple more images to the stream before I took a nap, I was more than chagrined to discover that the hard drive of our computer had crashed. Expecting the worst, I feared that all but two of my pictures from this event, plus several thousand other images that I still have in my archives, were gone forever, excepting some that I had saved on CDs or in my albums with Mpix. (The two showcase images I knew were safe were already on file there, and I plan to order prints of them either tonight or tomorrow.) Fortunately, this story has at least a reasonably happy ending. After several hours of painstaking effort, I managed to save all of my data in the computer, including all of the pictures, although I also had to reregister some of my software programs and have been unable to get into a couple of those -- including Nikon's ViewNX, which I have always used in processing RAW files. (I did manage to revive my Nikon Capture 4 program, the more important component of the RAW software, but am still scratching my head over what to do about ViewNX.) It's probably going to take me several weeks to get everything sorted out, but I'm certainly glad this turned out to be much less of a disaster than I had feared. I wish I knew what had caused today's crash, however.
I like this picture and would probably have put it here eventually in any event. But even though I was tired after several hours of computer troubleshooting -- and no nap -- I decided to edit and upload one picture before bedtime, just to make sure I could still do it, and this was the one I chose to serve as the evening's guinea pig.
Tim tam truffles made up - chopped up and very yummy and bad for you. A strange Mothers' day present as part of something else.

Pronounced (sort of) "Tem". Tim sells wallets and purses in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City, walking around with a basket of them slung in front of her. If you are there for an hour you will see her. If you are there for two hours, you will see her twice.
