Tilework on the top of the facade of a school building, constructed 1902 and designed by the municipal Dienst Publieke Werken [Department of Public Works]. Originally probably a municipal school, today it is a Dalton School.

A hint at the new design CDOT is implementing through the Milwaukee-Dearborn Subway (currently the Blue Line subway). The design differs in color and tile pattern from the design being gradually implemented in the State Street Subway (Red Line), which uses warmer colors.

A connecting flight of stairs leads to another famous feature of the park: the Gran Placa Circular. Originally intended as a market place for the residents, this plaza is bordered by what is known as the largest bench in the world. The colorful ceramic serpentine bench, designed by Jujol, twists snakelike around the plaza. The view from the plaza is spectacular, you can see as far as the Mediterranean Sea. The whole platform is supported by 86 huge columns, creating a hall beneath the plaza, known as the Sala Hipòstila. www.aviewoncities.com/barcelona/parcguell.htm
