One of the most iconic photo-spots in Germany. It is far out in the East, out of (almost) everyone's way. But we made the effort to get there. I planned to shoot through sunset into the blue hour. But the weather gods weren't quite with us that evening... except for a few brief moments before sunset when the bridge was lit up dramatically. Those few moments were totally worth it!

Oh! And a big sorry to everyone! I know, I have kept you waiting a long time for a new image. That's because I was extremely busy with many things lately. But big promise for 2018: I will edit and upload more often! Still have many sleeping beauties on my hard disk and quite a few new photo-journeys planned. So watch this space! I am still alive :-)

Well, I am finally back from my (almost) month long trip around the Southwest.

The final totals include 3,300 miles, thousands of photos, 3 hotels, a half dozen campsites, and even 1 night in a Walmart parking lot. (Ah, the glamorous life of landscape photography).

I had met up with fellow photographer William McIntosh the previous day, and we made our way up to the North Rim to take shots of Wotan's Throne.

As the sun was setting, we moved within inches of the cliff and suddenly noticed another group of photographers below us, perched on an even more narrow ledge! We soon realized they were a workshop being led by pro photographer Mark Metternich, who was nice enough to come over and talk with us, even though we were not part of his group.

We all waited for the sun to descend, hoping that there was enough of a gap between the horizon and the ominous storm clouds that had been hanging over the canyon for most of the day. Just at the last possible moment, the most amazing beam of light shone through the gloom, and lit up the side of Wotan's Throne. All I could hear was my heart beating, and shutters clicking... it was a moment I will never forget.

Standing before his throne, my mind went into a whirl of memories

...moments of want and desire ... of things that were never meant to be mine

Yes Greed was very familiar to me, his face was a mirror.. not a reflection but a depth,

one that continued beyond places I had long forgot

There was a sameness to this moment.....

He took a deep breath and began to hiss...

The Alien Throne hoodoo formation in the Valley of Dreams, New Mexico. This was taken at the end of a very long and cold (maybe around 3 or 4 degrees Celsius) night. Night photography can be challenging and pretty exhausting, but it sure is magical to be out there under those dark skies.

If you'd like, take a look at my other night images.

This is one of my favorite rock formations. It is amazing what water and wind create in given enough time..

One of many thrones in the Forbidden City or Palace Museum. This would be where the Emperor or his mother the Empress Dowager would grant an audience within his/her private quarters.

The Throne Pavilion is the first and usually only building in the Imperial City that a petitioner to the Emperor would encounter. Built mostly in the 19th century during the Nguyễn dynasty, the Citadel and the Imperial City was patterned after the Forbidden City in Bejing, China. The site suffered extensive damage during the Vietnam War and is still undergoing restoration or reconstruction.

The setting sun lights up the western face of Wotan's Throne, a finger of land now separated through erosion from nearby Cape Royal. In the far distance is the Grand Canyon's South Rim.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. A humorous juxtaposition and a 'Fun for Friday' shot actually falling on April Fool's Day! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead.

Sunset at Cape Royal, the farthest peninsula of a far-flung peninsula jutting into the Grand Canyon. While hanging around waiting for the best light, we enjoyed the company of a mom who brought her young son for a day trip (he was very excited about the cuddly spider toy from the gift shop, less excited about the view) and the death-defying stunts of braver photographers than me who hopped the fence to stand on an unprotected rock ledge just outside the frame.

The view of Sam's Throne, in the Ozark National Forest in northern Arkansas. Sam's Throne was actually named after someone named Sam Davis. According to legend, back in the 1820s Sam claimed that his sister had been kidnapped. In his anger, he would climb out onto this rocky outcrop and give fiery sermons to all his neighbors within earshot. Legend also states that Sam also buried some gold on Sam's Throne, although nothing has ever been found in the years since (that we know of).

The photo is about a pumpkin seller sitting on his pumpkins and waiting for customers. The pumpkin seller is sitting on pumpkins and it seems like it's a throne or chair of pumpkins and he is the king of a kingdom of pumpkins.

Perfect for any home this throne contains lots of animations.

Employee facilities in the old mill: Two little lavatories on each floor with one commode each. The somewhat-newer mill that adjoins this mill wasn’t much more accommodating for bodily functions.
