This unique log and makeshift throne occupied the same spot on the Coburg Peninsula for several years. During that time, it had been flipped and turned, carved and burned. It has also been photographed by many people. This icon washed away during the extreme tide and heavy surf on December 20th. It probably needed a rest! Hopefully it will turn up somewhere for others to enjoy!

As you can see there are other large hoodoos surrounding the throne. This area has many hoodoos in it along with other incredible rock formations.
If you ever decide to go there, do lots of research, because it is a huge area with no maps or trails. Everything is done with gps locations. I still use that, but the throne area i can find without using a gps.

The thinning sheet of ice that is Monarch Glacier sits in a basin of stone high up on the throne-like shoulders of Monarch Mountain (9,111 ft; 2,777 m), Victoria Cross Range, Jasper National Park, Alberta.
The ice combined with the cool, wet cloud to create an atmosphere that felt autumnal as we slowly ascended and wove our way through meadows, following the firmest, highest ground that we could. Due to the rain, the plentiful, dense, and healthy herbaceous vegetation, and the water table being very close to the surface, the feet stayed stubbornly saturated. All of this did little to dampen the magnificence of the place. I don't know when the last person walked this valley before we found our way through, but we encountered not a trace of humanity.
As I walked somewhat ahead of my friend, I found myself enveloped in quiet, my mind ruminating on whether we would encounter bears and where we might find a good place to pitch the tent where the ground would be dry. I also began to feel the isolation, both foreign compared to my typical town fare and also exhilarating. The clouds remained thick and dense, and it seemed likely it would rain periodically for the foreseeable future. I could hear my pack creaking quietly and rhythmically as the weight shifted on my back as I moved, and precious little else reached for the mind's attention. One of the beauties of walking with a friend with whom I have hiked for 30 years is we are able to drift into long periods of comfortable silence, absorbing the unadulterated wild with each step further into the fastness.
There was a flower once upon a spring sitting magnificently on its throne.
The empty throne is eagerly waiting for the flower to come back.

When trying to capture this waterfalls, it looked as if a monarch were sitting on a throne. I ended up playing with it for over an hour, hence the title, and eventually decided to include the foliage at the bottom. The purpose was to draw attention there first, giving the viewer a place to start.
One could then work their way up the wall, against the flow, experiencing the powerful flow of the water. I felt working one's way up might add this dynamic to the shot. Placing a colorful element toward the bottom would accomplish this, while the rest of the image remained, more duo-tone.
“The road may be rough, the journey may be tough and the experience may be bitter, but they are stepping stones to our future thrones.”

🎶I'm not here for your entertainment
You don't really wanna mess with me tonight
Just stop and take a second
I was fine before you walked into my life
'Cause you know it's over
Before it began
Keep your drink, just give me the money
It's just you and your hand tonight🎶

By 3am the rain had stopped and the sky was mainly clear. I had my tripod set up for the composition I wanted, and made an exposure for the foreground just after sunset. The Milky Way was photographed using a separate exposure, shot between 3 and 4am.
The wind and rain have conspired together to create fantastical rock formations in the New Mexico desert. Strange rock creatures surround the Alien Throne.
Today was our last full day in Korea so we decided to go back to the Changdeokgung Palace which was not open on the day we tried to visit in our first week here. Very glad we went back, it was very impressive with stunning gardens and when we were there not very busy. This is the main throne room, pretty impressive ceiling for sure.
The Alien Throne Is a very unique rock formation. I think only the King of Wings is more unique in Bisti.
The Throne is lot easier to get to than the wing. The wing is isolated and it's a tough hike.
"She is the breath of twilight, where beauty becomes eternal and dreams take wing."
The butterflies kneel in soft devotion,
winged courtiers to her radiant calm.
Her gown is sewn of clouds and wonder,
her jewels lit by the breath of dawn.
She listens to the world’s hushed secrets,
gathering them like pearls in her hand.
And in her heart, an unbroken promise—
to guard the realm of dreams with grace.

Wotan's Throne, Grand Canyon, Arizona
The setting sun lights up the red rock of Wotan's Throne, a massive butte named after Wotan, aka Odin, a Norse god and the source of the English weekday name Wednesday. The geologists who named the formations within the Grand Canyon drew from world religions, modern and archaic. Hence Wotan's Throne, the Temple of Vishnu, the Temple of Zoroaster, Freya's Castle, and so on.
This is the first and usually only building in the Imperial City that a petitioner to the Emperor would encounter. Built mostly in the 19th century during the Nguyễn dynasty, the Citadel and the Imperial City was patterned after the Forbidden City in Bejing, China. The site suffered extensive damage during the Vietnam War and is still undergoing restoration or reconstruction.

This is a male Anna's hummingbird perched on his thorny mesquite throne. I just love the iridescence of these guys.
