The classic novel "The Three Musketeers" has been enjoying a minor rennaissance of late due to the inadvertant publicity provided by the film "Slumdog Millionaire" - that I searched my childhood photo album to retrieve this old, faded pic.
Is it any wonder when you have a group of 3 siblings or friends, they are instantly labelled "The Three Musketeers" by adults? I hear this so many times ... Three against the world. Three with the whole world as their playground. Together and forever three.
But of course, life got in the way and nothing lasts forever, as the three musketeers would eventually split apart, grow older, and lead their own separate lives, communicating with each other occassionally, or sometimes not at all.
Eventually perhaps, a reunion will surface during their golden years where remembrance and nostalgia and hope for the next generation will coincide in a blissful ceremony where the hard realities of life will step aside quietly to the background, albeit for a brief moment -- so that the unbreakable, invincible, and unstoppable three musketeers will once again take centrestage and plot to rule the world.

I freaking LOVE the 3 Musketeers!
Reading this was one(only) nice point about being a dole-monkey the last time around. (also "Down and out in Paris and London" - however freezing, grotty and infested with psychopaths your squalid garret happens to be, thank fk you weren't George Orwell)
Have been saving this for a re-read, so now I'm a feckless benefit-harpy with acres of time to squander.. plus 2 more in the series. NO EXCUSES!

As anticipated, I got asked at least a half dozen times if I was Marie Antoinette. I wasn't - I was Milady from "The Three Musketeers" - but with a d'Artagnan or an Athos following me around (or even an Aramis or a Porthos, despite my personal preferences... ;) ) I didn't think anyone would have a clue what I was talking about, and I was pretty much right. ;) Other than that, though I need to take another shot - this doesn't show the fringe around the bottom, which - due to it's being pleated - actually took longer than any other part of the dress. :)
