A really late-season thread-waisted wasp, Ammophila sp., on wildflowers in my Colorado Springs neighborhood. October 5, 2018.
Urban threads pattern in all four corners with the girl in the center. These took a couple of weeks each.
In this picture, I use a knitting needle size US1 to make the loops at the beginning.
I started with scrap thread that was about 30 to 32 inches in length.
Making rings might be a good use for any the scrap you might have!
In 1952 Murray Greenblatt founded the Synthetic Thread Co. in a bankrupt former silk mill on 12th Avenue. The company made sewing thread from polyester, nylon and other manmade materials. The thread was then sold to manufacturers who used it in everything from book bags to casket linings. Synthetic Thread closed in 2004.
