When I was taking out the garbage this afternoon, I noticed a BIG bag filled with thread next to the chute! Of course I had to take it with me! It was full of thread. Well over 100 spools. Mostly Coats & Clarks, and mostly on plastic spools so it can't be too old. I usually buy Gutterman, but I'm not about to turn away free thread!

Practice run on this thread catcher pattern. Holy Moly the pattern has 20 pieces in a tiny 4 1/2 dresdan. I'm going to change that on the next one. Maybe 6 or 8 petals!! Photostream has close up of top. There is also a tab in the bag to hold small scissors.
My mum sent me parcel with some sewing stuff.I'm trained seamstress, but haven't been sewing for almost 10 years(while i was on the move). This Christmas I was given a sewing machine so I'm intending to put it to good use.
These spools of thread are probably as old as me....or pretty close.the price they had on can't be even translated to today's money.I think it was like 1p a spool.Oh I wish it was like that these days.
In India a Festival called Rakhi is celebrated every year in August. This day in general sisters tie a sacred thread on their brothers' wrist and brothers vow to protect them from all troubles. In this case though, my little daughter got a thread from her granny...
My second attempt to use the sewing machine needle as my pen, and sketching a free form portrait. Again I was trying for one line continuous technique but the thread broke. Her left eye stands alone. Watercolor was added after the lines were stitched. 4"x6" index card.
