Even though this chick had likely just been born earlier this morning, it could run like the wind this evening!

Even though caught by surprise, a middle-age man grins and makes a hand gesture of approval as I take his candid photo while he is having a chat with another guy.

That other guy is at the porch of his house by the highway. He, on the other hand, is sitting on the saddle of his bicycle cart which he parked on the roadside in front of the said house.

Captured in mid-morning at a village in Subic, Zambales, Philippines.

Though mornings r very cold in winter, life of a fishermen in Bangladesh starts very early in the morning. They have to wake up so early and go to the water for catching fish. Traditionally our fish markets starts very early in the morning. So fishermen need to Cary their fishes to the market before the first customer arrive in the market. In the winter, most of our water bodies begin to dry up. It is the busiest time for the fishermen of freshwater. It is the time of makings Shutki (dryfish). They sell raw fish and in the house, their female family members help them preparing dry fishes.

So , when I was going to take picture of sunrise in the morning I thought I would be the first to come in the bank. But surprisingly enough , when I reached the bank I found fishermen r already in there to Give me company.

Salute them and salute there noble profession.

WISHING U ALL A HAPPY WEEKEND.

Though the azaleas are the star attraction at the National Arboretum this time of year, there are always plenty of other beautiful flowers. If you view LARGE, this Iris seems to be inviting you in.

Though it wasn't enough, I just hope and pray that this is a preview of more rain to come.

Have a very nice weekend, everyone!

Thank you so much for looking and for taking the time to comment. They are very appreciated!

Some good photo ops, as I was driving south. Tornado Warning now on the cell just to the east. Had to get to the Hwy 15 / Hwy 41 Junction to watch the wall cloud move just to the west of Wilber Nebraska.

A few of these might be a little blurry, though structure was wanted to show here. It was my only Tor Warned storm all day, as I was now close to 13 hours on my chase day. I was getting tired and I wasn't about to chase a tornado in the dark, so to get close and witness what I could as there was no light left. 1"-2" Hail now was pounding my windshield and it would only get worse. Though I rolled down the window and shot these final shots...

Final Day shots that is...

Thankfully, though our days now are short (4 hrs 45 mins, and still losing more than 2 mins per day) the sunsets and sunrises are slow, long and lingering.

Though distressed by time and the elements, the Hastings Building in Port Townsend is still beautiful.

Though it was a rainy day, I still saw a number of visitors happily traveling down the bumpy gravel road into the forest to see the spring glow at Buttermilk Falls, New Jersey.(200 feet tall)

Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel et Kate Bush

in this proud land we grew up strong

we were wanted all along

I was taught to fight, taught to win

I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems

I am a man whose dreams have all deserted

I've changed my face, I've changed my name

but no one wants you when you lose

don't give up

'cos you have friends

don't give up

you're not beaten yet

don't give up

I know you can make it good

though I saw it all around

never thought I could be affected

thought that we'd be the last to go

it is so strange the way things turn

drove the night toward my home

the place that I was born, on the lakeside

as daylight broke, I saw the earth

the trees had burned down to the ground

don't give up

you still have us

don't give up

we don't need much of anything

don't give up

'cause somewhere there's a place

where we belong

rest your head

you worry too much

it's going to be alright

when times get rough

you can fall back on us

don't give up

please don't give up

'got to walk out of here

I can't take anymore

going to stand on that bridge

keep my eyes down below

whatever may come

and whatever may go

that river's flowing

that river's flowing

moved on to another town

tried hard to settle down

for every job, so many men

so many men no-one needs

don't give up

'cause you have friends

don't give up

you're not the only one

don't give up

no reason to be ashamed

don't give up

you still have us

don't give up now

we're proud of who you are

don't give up

you know it's never been easy

don't give up

'cause I believe there's the a place

there's a place where we belong

Though this little shorebird might fit in with my recent postings of coastal Texas birds, the location may surprise some. We found him/her (hard to tell the difference between sexes) next to a prairie dog burrow in Badlands National Park.

I thought this shot would make a good transition from a winter birding in Texas series to a series of autumn in the Badlands and on the prairie of South Dakota

Though I have taken better images since, this still remains my favourite image, the tree is near Kinlochleven near a layby on the A82 in Scotland, the Three Sisters in the background were looking very daunting as the bad weather moved in. It is the first really moody landscape that I shot, I have never edited it, but it could do with the A82 removing (you can see a couple of cars).

Hope you like it

Location: Drone Haven

Drone Haven stands as a somber monument to humanity’s fleeting reign, a forsaken city overtaken by the relentless march of nature. Towering, rusted skyscrapers—once symbols of progress—now crumble into the earth, their skeletal frames bound in a suffocating embrace of vines and moss. Faded posters and the echoes of forgotten graffiti serve as grim premonitions: “The End is Near!” On the fringes, a last-ditch survivalist camp briefly defied extinction. Dreamers, with fragile hope, planted gardens and built shelters in a futile act of defiance. But disease, depletion, and discord swiftly snatched away their fleeting defiance, leaving only silence and creeping green. At the city's heart, the butcher shop—a relic of human industry—stands decayed and broken. Its walls, softened by moss and pierced by vines, speak of a once-vibrant world now swallowed by time. The eerie message lingers: “The End is Near!” A grim echo of human ambition, now lost in nature’s quiet dominion. Among the ruins, drones—mechanical phantoms—still wander, remnants of their creators' ambition. They dutifully plant life during the Echocycle, maintaining the city as both a testament to human legacy and nature's quiet triumph. But even these tireless machines, bound by the limits of their energy, will one day cease. The paradox is clear: humanity’s imprint, though indelible, is as ephemeral as the machines it birthed. Drone Haven whispers a haunting truth: humankind, for all its perceived significance, is but a fleeting echo against the eternal backdrop of nature’s vast, unyielding cycles. In the city’s rust and bloom, it mourns the inevitable collapse, the fragility of life, and the inescapable reality that all things—natural or artificial—are bound to fade into silence.

Even though at first glance it looks a bit like the distant Eiffel Tower, it is not at all. It's just the pillar of the Passerelle du Palais de Justice in Lyon. Photographed through two pillars at the entrance to the Palais de Justice, and above it arches a wonderfully blue, but also somewhat boring sky.

Though the ladies' version of the roadster bicycle largely fell out of fashion in England and many other Western nations as the 20th century progressed, it continuously remained popular in the Nether-lands right to the present day. In the Dutch language the name of these bicycles is omafiets ('grandma bike'), a term which has been in use since the 1970s. The omafiets is a national icon, and is even used by men in the Netherlands; this is why some people refer to bicycles of this design as Dutch bikes. The classic omafiets is still in production in the Netherlands and has changed little since 1911: it comes with a single-speed gear, 711 mm × 38 mm (28 in × 1+1⁄2 in) wheels, black painted frame and mudguards, and a rear skirt guard. Modern variants, be they painted in other colours, with aluminium frames, drum-brakes or multiple gear ratios in a hub gearing system, will all conform to the same basic look and dimensions as the classic omafiets.

Though already greatly diminished on the whole, rows upon rows of stately trees still stand at what's left of the Boardman Tree Farm, aligned ever so beautifully and shining ever so brightly golden for perhaps their last autumn, near Boardman, Oregon.

I first visited the Boardman Tree Farm when passing through part of eastern Oregon in the spring of last year and, at that time, I was blissfully unaware that the tree farm soon would be no more. There was so much to love about the feel of being within those trees: the seemingly endless rows, the elegant trunks rising up to support a rustling canopy above; the flickering, intermittent intrusions of sunlight; and the openness within the stands contrasting with visual convergence of the rows in every direction seeming to lead only to little doorways to the beyond.

I have to see this in all its golden autumn glory one of these days I thought.

Then someone told me that the whole of the vast tree farm had been sold, and would be soon be converted in part to vegetable plantings and the rest to a massive dairy. The place was so large (over 25,000 acres before the sale) it seemed hard to believe, so I looked it up. Sure enough, several earlier articles announced the sale, while others intoned that acres upon acres of trees were being quickly cleared and that there would not be many more autumns to see the trees.

I make no broader value judgments between tree farms, vegetable farms and dairy farms. All I know is that I like trees more as a photographer, and I quickly concluded that I was going to miss that wonderful place to which I'd only just been introduced.

I couldn't make it back out to Oregon last fall, but happily an opportunity arose this year. In the weeks leading up to my trip, information about how much had been cut already was a little hard to come by, but several sources indicated most were already gone, and I felt some nervousness that there wouldn't be any trees left to see by the time I got there.

So last week, when I caught up again with good friend and regular photographic travel companion Sky Matthews on a rainy day in Seattle, we hopped in the car and headed straight for Boardman. To our great relief and enjoyment, we of course found that there were several sections of trees remaining, and that they were magnificent in their stunning geometries and perfect seasonal color.

A few weeks ago I'd indentified just one evening where I had some free time to get out and see Comet Neowise. Since it wasn't going to be around again for another 6,766 years I though I'd better make the effort... and the thought of it being visible to the naked eye was far too much of a temptation to pass by.

Thankfully (and unusually) the weather was absolutely perfect for the evening I'd picked with very little cloud lingering around and thus millions of stars were clearly visible to the naked eye, arrivng well after dark was the hard part as not only was I struggling to see the comet I couldn't really see where I was going either without shining a really bright torch around and potentially ruining anyone elses shots that may be around although I couldn't make anyone out..

My arrival time coincided with the tide going back out so that was a huge help knowing I wasn't going to get cut off on the rocks I was now scrambling across in the dark to find a foreground.. once I'd got settled my eyes had adjusted to the dark and the Comet could clearly be seen, absolutely awesome to witness I just stood on watched on for a while taking it all in, after all it was the only time I'd ever get to see it..

This was taken a 0115AM, I finally settled on a 15 second exposure at f/2.8 and a little bit of lighting for the foreground rocks, it's really not often I do shooting at night and Astro work but I really enjoyed it, something very surreal about being stood in the sea at 0130 AM in Wellies shooting and watching a subject that is 64 million miles away. Not something you get to do everyday. And amazingly, no mishaps !

Have a zoom around at all the stars, sent my eyes crazy looking up at them all, due to light pollution you never get to see anything like this where I live.

Though providing a nice fall display, sugar maples have overtaken the understory in many oak-hickory forests here, resulting in less plant and wildlife diversity. This has occurred because of fire suppression and now many conservation areas are being revitalized with controlled burns.

Even though there is a little bit of blue sky, it was pretty dark (for afternoon), very dim light. The weather was coming from behind, super dark low clouds and it was just minutes before it started raining. That's one of those 'just do it' panoramas, but I took the chance despite the light cause it's not the old days anymore, this is besides a well-trodden path and so when the weather is nice, it's ..touristy by now. 😕 Would like to do this location with better conditions one day, the lake takes on all sorts of beautiful green tones (at least on the visible spectrum) due to the forest around.

Source for this is a 4 piece panorama, 12567 x 5520px, ~69,4MP, but cropped a little, to give the lake center stage.

There is some fringing going on against the sky (not a huge fan), which is in part due to the lens I think, but I'll spare you the rant.

It was also the time when I (finally) decided to jump on AdobeRGB as long as I'm lossless with the D3300, ran the D90 with an sRGB chain for IR.

Monochrome conversions turned out nice, did not offer anything distinct however, were just like regular b&w. Overall, field of view is about 180°. 👀

Those who walk the valley of Yosemite will find themselves encircled by towering granite walls that will leave their mind in awe. Cathedrals of stone are carved by nature, though much envied by worldly religions to replicate in grandeur. Some may find a certain inner peace, enlightenment or spiritual awareness while tilting their head skyward. The church of nature welcomes all who seek quiet contemplation, renewal of spirit, or a respite from the monotony of life.

Though the red boathouse at DeSoto is more famous, this one is beautiful in it's own right. I also loved the stripes of color reflected in the water.

Have I already mentioned how awesome the color was up there last weekend?

Driving though Skye, the moody skies kept on coming, then some sunlight broke through. There was no particular point of focal interst to weight the viewers eye to, so I used some movement to convey the feeling the light was evoking, as it slowly swept its way across the vista.

A short stop by the side of the road and then onward to the next undiscovered beauty-spot.

Though mankind spreads a thousand fold

No mortal may escape my hold

My hunt is endless and my thrill

is executing god's own will

They call me reaper as my scythe

shall end their plague of love and life

In time all men shall find me there

and cry out in their own despair

Those who seek me shall soon find

I come to men of every kind

I follow sickness, pain and age

I transcribe names upon the page

I follow war, and pestilence

and ride with them in excellence

When the end comes I will be there

to claim all men within my snare

No person may escape the pain

in time all peoples shall be slain

I send men to their last judgement

as they cry out in their lament

I came in Egypt as a plague

my purpose true, my methods vague

With gods command I will be there

my forces beyond all compare

In time all of mankind is shown

the journey they must take alone

the trip from the world they call home

to lands where the spirit may roam

I drag them to the other side

no one can run, no one can hide

I rob their lungs of breath and air

Kings and paupers must beware

The truth is no one has control

of their time or of their own soul

Their days are numbered I must be

the voice that screams their elegy

I stalk all folk, I'm just behind

the darkness which shall rend you blind

I never left I'm always there

There's no one here that death shall spare

Upon my pale horse I must ride

To bring men to the other side

my task brings sorrow, sadness, gloom

my form shall set forth hate and doom

All cultures see me as the norm

though no man yet has guessed my form

my task a burden I must bare

only I am trusted to its care

Dogs signal my entrance howling

old prophets may sense me scowling

Plagues and famines are revealing

purpose needs no more concealing

I the butcher of all slaughter

I who steal your sons and daughters

Young men flee, old men beware

Victories brief, escape is rare

Dreaded queen of dark destruction

I'm the worlds last interruption

I'm the final balance shifting

Earth is the world I am lifting

From my reaping all shall falter

blood shall rain down from the altar

Soon all men shall be aware

of my cold merciless stare

Though not the leader everyone wanted, still cool to see UP SD70s leading this far east. NS 10E heads south by Bayard on the way toward Yellow Creek and Conway on March 4, 2018.

Though Red-breasted Mergansers are common in the area, this is only the second time I've seen one on the bayou, and the first time not being eaten by an alligator.

Though the sun was blazing strong light wise the temperature this day I went hiking was quite pleasant.

From Wiki: The green-headed tanager (Tangara seledon) is a brightly colored bird found in the Atlantic forest in south-eastern Brazil, far eastern Paraguay, and far north-eastern Argentina (Misiones only).

As other members of the genus Tangara, it is a small colorful bird, measuring an average of 13.5 centimeters (5.3 in) and a mass of 18g (0.6 oz). The green-headed Tanager has a greenish or bluish head, black on the back, and a contrastingly colored, orange or red rump. Females and juvenile birds have similar, though duller coloration. While essentially a bird of humid forests, it is also common in orchards and parks,[2] where it moves through the canopy, making itself inconspicuous, as its apparently flashy blue-green coloration camouflages it well amongst the foliage.

Though they were at the airport as Mona Lisa smiles. Some people just travel with way too much luggage

Though we saw Puffins at Bempton, our nearest sightings were from the cliffs at Flamborough Head.

Even though the Least Bitterns are a different color from the reeds that they inhabit, they are still difficult to spot and a challenge to approach and capture. This little reed rocket stayed put and kept a watchful eye on that approaching canoe on Horsepen Bayou. They are gone for the winter months, but will return in the spring.
