This bird has been hanging out in the yard all afternoon. I wouldn't find this very strange if I lived anywhere near a body of water. It keeps flying away when I go outside to take a picture of it. I just looked out the window and it is back for the 4th time.

I 'think' this is a spotted shag, but would be pleased if someone could either confirm or put me right.
Found at the end of the very remote jetty that gaurds the intake to the Salt Works in Clifford Bay. I was able to get so close to some birds they were within the 1.4 metres minimum focus distance of my lens
i don't know what the heck this guy is (maybe a Robber Fly?), but he ain't pretty. very meditative, though, he's probably still out there holding this same pose... i had to touch him with a stick to make sure he was alive.
The lens for this, of all things, was a Sears Roebuck 135/2.8 in Pentax K mount, with 65mm of extension tubes behind it on a Canon XTi. Shot at about f/5.6.

Just completed a 3 day hike down the South Kaibab trail of the Grand Canyon, 2 nights/1 day at a cabin in Phantom Ranch on the bottom, and hike out on the Bright Angel Trail. The overlook shots are mostly on the S. Kaibab, with glimpses of the Colorado River visible in some. A few shots, with people begin to show the incredible scale of the place. Snow & ice at the top for the first 2-3 miles, very cold, but then nice but still cold at Phantom. I couldn't hike with my "real" camera, so all I had with me was an old point-n-shoot. Still, given the shock & sadness of the mass shootings in my Tucson town which I learned of just as I was about to descend, the beauty of the Grand Canyon was the perfect antidote. It really helped.
Harley thinks he's hiding under the table at the back door. The door is a sliding glass door that looks out onto a flower bed and a bird feeder. He will sit or lay there for hours watching the "visitors" to "his" backyard...
Dance-ol-ogy participants danced their pants off at Club Fit's "So You Think You Can Choreograph?" event on 6-9-16. A fun time by many!

I think this is one of 2 year old siblings back to visit us. And probably female - more slight, not so heavy in the shoulders, darker winter pelage. Female Martens don't come into a state of oestrous until after 2 years old, so the earliest conception is at about 2.5 years, delivering kits after delayed implantation, when fully 3 years old.
If I am correct she is still in her juvenile range. If the other Marten seen with her is a brother, then he will have to leave or keep a very low profile when a mature male choses the above Marten as a mate.
So what is the identity of the larger Marten with the light winter pelage. Is this her brother or her father?
