Just to make sure I never went without a thimble again I placed an order from an Etsy vintage dealer. I am now the happy recipient of not just one. . . . .
For the whole story-
I don't know what the quality of notions and sewing supplies were historically and I'd have to guess like now most things were made cheaply and without much decoration whenever possible but it's always nice to come across something made well and with charming details.
Spadina and Richmond, July 2003 | This sculpture marks the ‘Fashion District’ of Toronto. It is a giant thimble stacked on top of a pile of giant buttons. As public art goes, I like it because it is very representational, but is enlarged so much that it appears abstract. And the world needs more giant things as backdrops to Batman fights.
On August 4, for a while, this was apparently my 200th least interesting picture.
I bought these shoes for my incoming nappy choos and thought they were so tiny... until Cecily tried them on! they are huge on her!
