At the table top museum show at Artworkers Guild in Bloomsbury the other afternoon. Hazel took this.
State symbol thimbles left over from the 1970's at Old Abilene Town, a reproduction western town in Abilene, KS. The Hitchin' Post Restaurant is Located here. A one time amusement park and tourist trap.
This thimble was my grandmothers. I never noticed the engraved word until I saw the photograph. It looks like it came from Austria. I wonder how old it is and the places it has been.
I left the reef early in the interest of keeping my SLR dry, and was chilling in my car when Jeff tapped on my window to show me this: the pseudoconch of the sea butterfly Corolla spectabilis. Sea butterflies are very strange pelagic mollusks that have wing-like mantle flaps foot extensions. This particular one grows a gelatinous "pseudoconch" instead of a shell, and sometimes they wash up on beaches. How awesome is that?

The thimble islands are off the coast of Branford, Connecticut. You can take a little boat ride around them and hear stories about Captain Kid's treasure and the rich people that live on them. Great way to spend an hour.

The O'Brien property on Nagle's Hill (or Oxen Pond Road) in St. John's. History here: www.heritage.nf.ca/society/rhs/rs_listing/137.html
Actually, this is old history, as Aloysius (Aly) has now passed on and nobody lives there. The whole property will be restored as a provincial Heritage Site.
From the description on the container; A charming, minature Mammiliaria native to Central Mecico. Tiny globular bodies are densely covered with interlaced white radial spines. Clusters prolifically to form large mats. Satiny creamy yellow flowers in the late winter. hardy to 20F, to four inches tall.
Definately lives up to it's name it's very fragile and breaks off at the slightest touch. Spines are very soft and don't prick.
Day 77 of Beyond Layers - From Above
As I'm running around, cleaning up from my art show this past weekend, the vignette on my front hallway chest seemed perfect for today's assignment - a perspective from above. Though I'm not much for halloween, these colors and contrasts pick up the vibe of the holiday...with perfect texture from kim...
