These beautiful flowers grow on six to eight foot stalks!

I put my macro lens very close to this flower and came up with this result....

These oculi or circular openings are typically found in the porch areas of the old townhouses in Melaka / Malacca. They provide for communication between neighbours as well as cross ventilation.

These leaves were just so pretty there ... captured at the Botanical Gardens there along the coast of Maine.

These are my neighbor's cows. I stopped on the way home and shot this. The cows just stood and watched me.

In reference to the many comments about the thorns in the upper corner: I leaned down and ducked my head under a barbed wire fence to get this shot. The thorns were hanging down from the fence and I am fine! LOL

These slides are taken with a half-size camera called Olympus Pen EE2 about 50 years ago. In January 1972, Our friend group went to the Nagareha Ski Resort in Gifu Prefecture. I remember it was very cold in a quiet ski area.

This ski resort was located inland, so we were able to enjoy a nice powder snow. At that time, it was a quiet hideaway area, and it seems that it is still being promoted as a hideaway ski resort. I want to visit again someday.

Between these two towers is where the prime minister of India makes the annual Independence Day address to the nation.

—from Wikipedia

The Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila (Hindustani: [laːl qɪlaː]) is a historic Mughal fort in Delhi, India, that served as the primary residence of the Mughal emperors. Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned the construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1639, following his decision to relocate the Mughal capital from Agra to Delhi. Originally adorned in red and white, the fort's design is attributed to Ustad Ahmad Lahori, the architect behind the Taj Mahal. The Red Fort represents the pinnacle of Mughal architecture during Shah Jahan's reign, blending Persian palace influences with indigenous Indian architectural traditions.

The fort was plundered and stripped of its artwork and jewels during Nadir Shah's invasion of the Mughal Empire in 1739. Most of the fort's marble structures were subsequently demolished by the British following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The fort's defensive walls were largely undamaged, and the fortress was subsequently used as a garrison. (And is still used mostly by the military today.)

On 15 August 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, raised the Indian flag above the Lahori Gate. On India's Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, the Prime Minister ceremonially raises the Indian tricolour flag at the main gate of the historic fort and delivers a nationally broadcast address from its ramparts.

The Red Fort, as part of the Red Fort Complex, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.

* These Beech trees looked rather splendid last week in Duncombe Park . While the colours in England do not compare with the amazing Autumn display in New England they are still a lovely sight

Duncombe Park is on the edge of the town of Helmsley in North Yorkshire

These little guys are so cool looking. Peacock Fly, photographed at Conowingo Dam in Maryland.

These 3 spoonbills were spotted at RSPB Leighton Moss

These three Rainbow Lorikeets seemed to be having quite a discussion. It looked like the one on the lower right was being told to make itself scarce.

These all orange Calendulas are lovely

These small inshore fishing boats in Mevagissey's inner harbour are normally used to fish for crab and lobster. This part of the harbour dates from the late 1700s and is on the site of a medieval quay. Mevagissey lies on the south coast of Cornwall and is said to have the second largest fishing fleet in Cornwall. The inner harbour is normally fairly full, so on this occasion most of the boats would appear to have gone to sea, although a few are moored in the outer harbour.

These little brown jobs have almost no defining features other than the song. Very rare to see them, always deep in cover. So pleased to get this much of him.

These juvenile Bald Eagles would patrol the beach inches from the volcanic sand looking for scraps, for such young birds, their flight control was amazing.

This is for Joan, a Flickr friend who loves Eagles, and is busy recovering after an operation. Keep at it Joan :o)xx

These Vidiyo pods are a pain in the lower backside because you can't do much with it. In an area of 8x8 it actually has 12 studs - on the backside.

For this rover I tried to hide that it's only fixed in the back and pulled the rubber tracks right up to the front. Unfortunately it's too big to fit in a pocket, so here's just a lame shot on the balcony.

Another archive shot of a typical beach day, a sky full of happy clouds being puffed along on a playful wind. Days at the coast can be so bright and are always happy and life affirming. Ride like the wind is by Frank Zappa

These are the western lake district fells and this is the view I open my curtains to in the mornings, obviously not always this beautiful or this visible but today is a good day.

Have a lovely day everyone.

The pika in the previous post lives among these rocks in the Snowy Range.

These beautiful trees are at the side of the haha, which was something which great houses had so that people could look out over the countryside around and see the cattle but because of a hidden ditch, the haha the animals could not come near the house. This haha now has trees planted on each side for privacy.

These subterranean fresh water lakes were sacred for the Mayan people who used as sources of water supply or for occasional sacrifices. They are an amazing place for a refreshing swim today.

These are reflections off the windows of a very old building near downtown. I think it was an indoor athletic facility or something similar.

These guys are fishing for shrimps the old fashion way a couple of times a month. It is such a beautiful way how they work together with these magnificent horses.

These were installed on a concrete bench. I cannot fathom what they are.
