Crocheted and felted wool in hyperbolic form. Fringed with champagne eyelash fiber. Edged with baroque freshwater pearls. Needle felted focal point with glass beads.

The rich heritage of Jaipur's art and crafts dates back to the times of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. When he was building the city in the eighteenth century, he invited artisans from different parts of the country to come and make this city their home. He made special arrangements for their work and stay here, which attracted many craftsmen to this Pink City. The high level of craftsmanship that existed during those days can still be found in the colorful shops of Jaipur.

Shahtoosh shawls of Jaipur are fine examples of the woolen and silk textiles of India. The textiles from the arid and semi arid regions are bright and have rich embroidery on them.

A piece of work from the Textiles taster week. This collage was made to look at the textures that I could use for my final piece.

This piece followed on from our initial observational shell drawings. I used inspiration from the shapes and textures of the shells to produce this batik and ink piece with hand and machine stitching details.

In this old Cotton Mill Town the businesses that thrived on textiles, uphostery for example, are undermined by the closure of the Cotton Mills. Soda giants move in...Pepsi Cola was patented in NC and its first production plant was based in NC.

I like the way the old sign has rusted, but been left there, the fonts of the old sign. What was particularly striking was that this sign is outside a store that is an uphosltery place, the sign is still a 'working' sign. The sign has been updated. You can see the traces of older words. But even the new version seems old not cleaned or cared for. The whole town felt neglected like the sign
