Lino Cut technique with the use of my chosen pastel toned colur palette-the vintage floral image is built up through the variety of colur.
These are some of the samples that I created during our textiles pathway week. We were given a box of objects which we had to use to create experimental drawings which we then went on to create using other materials. The top two samples were created using a heat press and a variety of plastics, and the bottom two samples were created using fabrics and sewing thread.
Made in last night's textiles class. Ribbons, chiffons, organzas, synthetic, threads, net soldered onto felt base. The scans haven't really captured the shimmer and shine.
Who isn't struck by the visage of a coil necklace on someone from the Padaung tribe of Burma or the Ndbele tribe of South Africa? I made this necklace of fleece and spandex in 2002. It was photographed in a fashion shoot for the November 2003 issue of Venuszine.
One of the Museums' 4 largest tapestries from the REDEMPTION OF MAN series (Flemish, early 16th c, aprox 27 x 14 feet) was loaned to LA County Museum for an exhibition re the art collector William Randolph Hearst. This installation turned out to be more challenging than normal because the guest exhibition designer wanted the tapestry installed on the wall of a narrow hallway. There was only one room large enough to unroll the tapestry and as usual, it took many people. Pictured are Sarah Gates and LACMA techs starting to roll the tapestry from the bottom up.

- and her sewing machine, placed on the Whittling Wall to signify Mount Airy’s textile heritage.
Her placement on the wall puts her close to a large textile mill (the large buildings seen at the end of the street), Spencer's Inc., which closed in 2007, putting hundreds of people like her out of work.

Whittling Wall Project - a Downtown Revitalization Project, now nearing completion.
A section of downtown Mount Airy which years ago became a popular gathering spot will get new life through a project to add statues of local icons to the space traditionally known as the “Whittling Wall.” Local icons who will be honored by the statue recreations are deemed to be individuals who called Mount Airy home and have helped shape it in unique ways.
The origins of the Whittling Wall hearken back to a time when pocketknives were standard equipment for the menfolk in this area. That culture also converged with something that never goes out of style, a desire to have a hangout for shooting the breeze.
