A great figure-ground reversal can be seen in the red 'herring bone' pattern. However, the colors are a little much (Professor Waldman says he's a bit ashamed of this particular textile for that very reason)

Linnaeus 1758, Also called Textile/Cloth-of-Gold Cone. One of the most classic cones and also one of the biggest subfamilies. There are today 31 different species in this beautiful family. Occurs in the Entire Indo-Pacific and the specie can be highly variable in color and pattern.

WORKING WEAVERS
These logs present a diversity of locations of working weavers from various countries and time periods. Libby O'Bryan was the primary researcher of images. Emily Nachison added images, color corrected, and formatted the images with text. Emily Nachison worked from this image bank to create the display in the exhibition. This compilation will continue to grow.
For brushing up a knitwear garment to create a fluffy mohair finish. The teasel flower heads are used to form the brushes.

Finlayson textile factory started in Tampere in 1820. Nowadays factory area is still here, but in museums / cafe's / shops /restaurants ... No textile industry in Tampere anymore. Luckily Finlayson is still making textile, and I love their quality. They are making lots of cute Moomin beddings, pillowcases, curtains, towels, etc. To all you Moomin fans out there! Oh, this is the factory store, I love it!

The mill company store played a large part in the workers' lives. Many were paid in mill money, which could be applied at the company store, towards rent of the company housing, and company services. As a result, workers were often in debt to the company and not free to seek another job. For more details about mill life, see the Greenville Textile Heritage web site.
This is the Brandon Mill company store, located in the Far West End and is now the location of the Art Bomb studios.

This year, Stroud International Textiles have introduced an open call competition to create ‘original creative head adornment’ as part of the Select Festival.
@spottedhyenas has produced three new works, under the working title ‘Mythical Urban Fairytale’, for the competition. Inspired by the Karo people of the Omo Valley Ethiopia, these Mythical Urban Characters were created with the bounty gathered and collected along City Basin towpath, London.
