Luftwaffe Dagger [1937] with Dedication, Hangers and Portepee by F. W. Höller, Solingen
This 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger, produced by Höller, is an absolute textbook example, and is in fine condition overall. Model 1937. The total length is 42.8 cm. The Dagger has the maker mark on the blade: F. W. Höller, Solingen.
Grip: The grip is an attractive dark pumpkin orange color. This grip is in perfect condition throughout, and is tightly wrapped with a springy copper wire. The hilt mounts are finished in an extremely dark coating. The pommel and crossguard have blackening in the backgrounds. This pommel has excellent hand-enhanced oak leaf details on both sides. The swastikas on either side are nicely vaulted. Crossgurad bear a Luftwaffe eagle flying to the viewer's left and clutching a swastika in his talons. The guard shows little wear, with excellent detail to the beak, breast feathering, and talons of the bird. The wing feathering is still mostly crisp as well. Neatly engraved within the pebbling on the reverse crossguard is the name of the original owner, “Hofmann”.
Blade: The blade is in fine condition throughout. The reverse ricasso is etched with a dual oval trademark. The oval contains the name and location of the firm, “F.W. Höller / Solingen”. The original leather blade buffer is in place.
Scabbard: The scabbard is also a fine example. It is coated with an airplane gray finish. It has outstanding crisp pebbled panels and the bands are a fine aluminum having excellent detail to the oak leaves. The throat is slightly thick and is retained by ony headless flush mount screw.

This is from an intro Psychology textbook my wife may be using for a class. Every chapter opens with an introductory piece that attempts to draw a parallel between something in real life and a concept explored in the book. This chapter has a whole page on blogs.

STOP THE MADNESS.
A sadly prescient book from 1937. From the introduction: "It is becoming increasingly apparent that the training of people to consume goods intelligently is quite as desirable a function of our schools as is that of preparing people to produce goods."
I think it would be nice if our schools taught kids to produce goods again. They've got the consumption thing down pat.

This slip of paper had to be kept with this college textbook if you wanted to be able to return it.
Judging from the age of the book (older than me!), I doubt I could return it even with that paper.

These are a pair of textbooks my grandmother used while she was at Wellesley. She gave them to me a few years back when I was up visiting, I think because I was in graduate school for English. I love the smell of these books. And I like her capital Ms.
My grandmother died yesterday afternoon. This is my picture of the day.
