Twenty years ago today I walked into The World's Biggest Bookstore in Toronto and bought myself a copy of Windows 95. For all of Microsoft's sins in the marketplace it should be noted that this operating systems ushered in the Internet onto the mainstream computer desktop. Of course, my first experience with the Internet at that time relied on analog phone lines and modems.
Trying to install the Dial-Up Networking app and configuring a PPP connection was a pain when Microsoft defaulted to SLIP. Microsoft Internet Explorer 1 was crap and the first thing you had to do was download Netscape as soon as possible, or more likely install it from a floppy disk. Oh, those were the days.
And being the curious fellow that I was, I discovered some .AVI files on the CD-ROM. That was how I was introduced to Weezer. Yes, not only had Microsoft enlisted the Rolling Stones's "Start Me Up" in their marketing campaign, they provided a copy of Weezer's "Buddy Holly" to test multimedia playback.
I loved Debby Hughes cards from class today, and decided to try her background technique. It did take a couple of tries with different amounts of water to get the desired effect on the Hero Arts Thanks Blackboard stamp. I inked it up with Peacock Feathers distress ink and spritzed it with water. My first attempt was too dry and didn't look watercolored at all. Then my next was way too wet and you couldn't read the words. Third times a charm I guess, because that was the one I used. I didn't have any gold glitter tape, so I created my own by taking a strip of paper and covering it with Delicata gold ink. I was thinking I was going to have to emboss it with clear embossing powder, but the ink so rich and beautiful, I just left it plain. Added my speech bubble and a couple of sequins to finish off the card. Thanks Debby for another great idea!
I found this wonderful photography book at a local antique shop. Picture Making For Pleasure And Profit by T. Stith Baldwin, Copyright 1903. I love to go to antique stores, flea markets and book stores looking for unusual things. I am an avid book collector of books on the history of North Carolina, I also collect old deeds and paper items.

This sign is on northbound I-29 in Mills County. Note that "Bellevue" is listed by itself without a state name — there is a Bellevue, Iowa, but it is on the Mississippi River in eastern Iowa over 350 miles from this sign. For those not familiar with the area, the Bellevue in question is in Nebraska.
(County Road H10 was IA 370 -- a continuation of NE 370, which serves the south suburbs of Omaha -- until the US 34 bridge opened in October 2014.)
The Crystal Grottoes Caverns were founded in 1920 when the State Roads Commission was quarrying for limestone to build up and pave State Route 34. After successfully quarrying back a cliff that was 35 to 55 feet high and 150 feet deep, an unusual event occurred. The next time they started to drill, they lost their drill bits in the cave. Later, when dynamite was detonated in the drill holes, the first entrance was produced.

My wife and I went to the first exhibition in Germany about Adof Hitler since the end of the war,needless to say its a touchy subject. The exhibit was located in the German national history museum and when you went inside the museum you would never know there was an exhibit about Hitler. I asked if i could take pictures and i was told i could without a flash but i managed to go in and snap a few pictures before i was told i was not allowed to,
The exhibit makes a strong point to explain the rise of Hitler,his impact on Germany,its people and crimes the crimes committed by this regime. The stories i read about it in English language German newspapers say they did not want the exhibition to be something Neo Nazis would not flock to.
The whole exhibition covers Hitler's rise from obscurity,the Nazis grab of power,life in Nazi Germany,Racial laws,the start of the war to the end and Hitler's legacy.
As well as the public's perception of Hitler from his time to present. I found it a bit strange to hear laughter during the exhibit but this came from scenes from Charlie Chaplin's parody of Hitler to videos from youtube with the meme of "Hitler's reaction to.." from the movie the Untergang. The youtube video "Hitler's reaction to Micheal Jacksons death" was on display which garned alot of laughs.
The whole exhibit had many relics from Nazi Germany. There were all sorts of uniforms from the 3rd reich like posters,children's books,painting,nazi street signs,Field Marshall baton's, strips of uncut yellow fabric the with star of David and "jude" written on it. Some of the artifacts were in such pritine condition they were down right errie looking.
The whole exhibit was really interesting but the disappointing part is that the main sections of the exhibit were described in English as well as German but alot of the individual artifacts and displays were only in German which gave me the impression that the exhibit was mainly for Germans.

There aren't that many left and all the $money $ goes to charity.
Yes, the pictures are silly. Yes it's a matter of taste. Say what?
The most important part is how the cost goes to charities.
Charities: ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and Multiple Sclerosis.
This strikes a cord to me personally because I lost an aunt to MS a few years back. Her kind heart, warm smile and loving tone to life were such a joy to see even while her body failed her.
Thanks you The Trial and Grateful Clem for putting this together. Very proud to see we can be silly and do some good.

Edward Palmer. nephew of the late joe Palmer class of 66. Middle named for his uncle. Mom and dad still live on Lecato where dad was raised. His grandfather built the house.

Nun, in der Schule haben wir gelernt, dass es eine Schlacht bei Schliengen gab, wo die Franzosen gegen die Österreicher kämpften und diese schließlich zurück drängten. Im Arc de Triomphe (Triumphbogen) sind alle siegreichen Kämpfe der Franzosen eingemeißelt. Also habe ich den Eintrag nicht nur gesucht, sondern auch gefunden.
Now I have a Pug and a Schnauzer, I'm determined to get most other well-known and not-so-well-known dog breeds - some as widdle puppies, some not!
