El templo y el convento de la Santa Cruz fueron construidos en lo que se conoció como Loma del Sangremal, en donde se libró la célebre batalla entre los indios chichimecas residentes de la región y los súbditos de España (conquistadores) el 25 de julio de 1531, donde cuenta la leyenda, que en lo más álgido de la batalla en que iban perdiendo los españoles comandados por Hernán Pérez Bocanegra y Córdoba y el grupo indígena Otomí comandado por Conín, que según el pacto solamente sería un simulacro de batalla, al verse perdidos invocaron la protección del Apóstol Santiago. Patrón de las Españas, y al momento se obscureció el sol, apareciendo estrellas y en lo alto del cielo se proyectó una cruz refulgente de color rosado y apareció también Santiago cabalgando un corcel blanco, lo cual le dio el triunfo a los que comandaba Conín cacique de Jilotepec ( posteriormente bautizado con el nombre de Fernando de Tapia )
Los franciscanos, corno recuerdo de este acontecimiento, colocaron una cruz semejante a la que vieron los indígenas en un "humilladero", más tarde le erigieron una ermita, posteriormente una pequeña Capilla y a mediados del siglo XVII, se construyó en lo más alto de la Loma de San Gremal el pequeño convento de Recolección de San Buenaventura, hasta que se instala y se amplía este convento, que cambia su nombre original por el Primer Colegio de Propaganda Fide en América y comienza a funcionar el 15 de agosto de 1683. Los nombres de los frailes Antonio Linaz, Antonio Margil de Jesús. Francisco Frutos, Antonio de los Ángeles y muchos más, llenan las páginas mas gloriosas de este colegio que tiene trascendencia continental, porque ahí surgen los Colegios de Cristo Crucificado en Guatemala, Guadalupe en Zacatecas, San Antonio en Texas, San Francisco en Pachuca San Fernando en México, Zapopan en Jalisco; de tal manera, que después de dos siglos de fecunda evangelización y culturización al Norte, Centro y Sudamérica, llegan estos colegios hasta cerca de Buenos Aires con el Colegio del Rosario, en Argentina. sin contar las veintiún Misiones de Fray Junípero Serra en la Alta California.

I'm not usually a fan of text on images. And I'm still not sure about this, I took it on and off like ten times!
The quote is from Oprah Winfrey and I am not a fan of hers at all, but I really liked this quote and thought it fit the image quite well.
The shot was a mistake really... I was doing 3 bracketed shots for a HDR of some trees, when these geese flew over. I pointed my camera up and quickly adjusted my shutter speed and took the photo. I tried to take more, but because my auto-exposure bracketing was on, I had a black image and a blown out image! Luckily, the first shot was ok. :-)
