These pictures and their accompanying text are taken from a beautiful old book on tree identification written by R. ST. Barbe Baker, the self-styled founder of the wonderfully-named The Men of the Trees, an organisation I know nothing about, but wish I had belonged to. The book came out in the 1940s, so all of it is now copyright free. I post this material for those of you who are of a Crafty persuasion (you know who you are;) and anyone else who is interested and would find the information or illustrations useful. All these images are free for you to do whatever you wish and are given with the brightest of blessings :)

The text of the "Friends" book my oldest daughter (aka D1) wrote for Abbey and Clawdeen's photoshoot.
The text reads: "Friends are fun. Friends are cool. Friends are nice like ice, nice like ice. [Cold] as [cold] can be. Friends are friends. It's a feeling to me, to [me]. It's a [feeling] to me. When I play my friends are here [too]."
The full pic is in the comments.
This is an illuminated album (muraqqaʿ) in accordion format containing Persian calligraphy. It was executed in Iran during the eleventh century AH / seventeenth CE. Lines of text in black nastaʿlīq script are framed by decorative cloud-bands. Borders are decorated with illuminated vegetal and animal motifs on multicolored paper. This album bears a seal impression of the Ottoman Sultan ʿUthmān Khān (Osman III, r. 1167 AH / 1754 CE -- 1170 AH / 1757 CE) and a bequest (waqf) entry and seal by Ibrāhīm Ḥanīf, inspector of awqāf (fol. 1b). The dark brown leather binding with central oval and pendants is contemporary with the manuscript but may not be original to it.

Tippecanoe Mall opened in 1974. It's current anchors are Sears, Macy's, JCPenney, Kolh's, Dick's Sporting Goods, and HH Gregg.
Created in England in the late twelfth century, this manuscript was intended to be a scientific textbook for monks. The manuscript is brief at nine folios, and was designed as a compendium of cosmographical knowledge drawn from early Christian writers such as Bede and Isidore, as well as the later Abbo of Fleury. Those writers, in turn, drew on classical sources like Pliny the Elder for their knowledge, but adapted it to be understood through the filter of Christianity. The twenty complex diagrams that accompany the texts in this pamphlet help illustrate them, and include visualizations of the heavens and earth, seasons, winds, tides, and the zodiac, as well as demonstrations of how these things relate to man. Although the exact grouping of texts and diagrams here is unique, the manuscript is related to other scientific compilations from this era, such as British Library, Royal Ms. 13 A.XI, Cotton Ms. Tiberius E.IV, and Oxford, St. John's College, Ms. 17.

The devil, who has been an actor that now struggles through life as a small-time crook, knocks the giant down by order of some people of the village. He apologizes to the Giant: "I am also only a poor devil"
Stage Direction: The taylor cleans the blood-smeared face of the giant. Irmelin, the little woman, stands on top of the human pyramide. Fearfully she looks to the giant, she is swaying.

I was saddened by the news of the death of Amy Winehouse. In his tribute I republish the "ticket for Amy Winehouse," which originally went up on May 16.
If there is another world where does the soul of the dead, she is well received and be at peace.
Amy,
esses seus peitões de silicone
não dão nem me matam a fome
o seu imenso topete, não,
não faz a minha cabeça
sua maquiagem exagerada
não, não está com nada,
mas com perdão da palavra chula
− não há outra que melhor se aplique −
você canta pra caralho
e somente por este atributo
presto-lhe este tributo
e me atrapalho
tentando pronunciar seu sobrenome
que me lembra o de uma geladeira imensa
que havia na casa da minha sogra
que se chama Wanda
e não tem nada a ver com esta história.
I should not translate the poem using the Google translator.
I fear that results in a monstrous text and perhaps incomprehensible.
That said, the poem follows:
Amy,
these are their big tits silicone
do not give me or kill hunger
his immense pompadour, no,
it makes my head
her exaggerated makeup
no, not with anything
but pardon the word foul
- no one that best applies -
you fucking sing
and only by this attribute
I pay him this tribute
I lag behind and
trying to pronounce her last name
that reminds me of a huge fridge
What was in the house of my mother
called Wanda
and has nothing to do with this story.

a true warrior of the heart fights for the universe he loves and sees in his dreams. he knows another world is possible, even through the noise of the people which rushes meaninglessly past him, unrelenting. the noise will always be there, but so too will the dream, which for the heart is the only real thing.
to be a warrior of the heart is not to sit, and to camp out, and to hone your weapons until they are sharper than a sword, sinisterly, calculating. nor is it to wait in vain, in paranoia or delusion, for the so called enemy to attack. for the true warrior of the heart, there is no enemy.
this is the order for the warriors of the new world, finally ushered into the universe. first they will marry themselves, without doubt or compromise. they will bear faith, and they will nurture it, like one nurtures a plant, a weak kitten, any living thing. they will bear witness to the light, not the darkness. they will not rot in anger, nor in indifference. they will not waste time on mirrors, being driven instead only by an internal compass. they will cultivate, against all odds, a practice of generosity. they will turn self righteousness into compassion. a strong will, which is a sheath, which is a shield, from the glances or the words of others.
the true warrior of the heart will redefine action. the sacred over the profane. prayer over force. self knowing over war.
for there is no enemy but one’s own shadow, one’s own fear. that dark place that, when unattended, wants nothing but eternal sleep, or dreams of the battlefield and sees only defeat. so the new warrior shall, above all, conquer no one but his/her own power of will, shall liberate not the masses but oneself, for what is in one is in the whole, and what the warrior conquers in oneself shall conquer it for all eternity, for all humanity, for all of the universe, for the rabbit, and the oak, and the moon, which shall continue to shine in the darkness the same for all living things, and in shining guide the warrior, eventually, home.

It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words....in the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words — in reality, only one word. Don't you see the beauty of that, Winston?
Constructive criticism gratefully received.
