These pictures and their accompanying text are taken from a beautiful old book on tree identification written by R. ST. Barbe Baker, the self-styled founder of the wonderfully-named The Men of the Trees, an organisation I know nothing about, but wish I had belonged to. The book came out in the 1940s, so all of it is now copyright free. I post this material for those of you who are of a Crafty persuasion (you know who you are;) and anyone else who is interested and would find the information or illustrations useful. All these images are free for you to do whatever you wish and are given with the brightest of blessings :)
Working with more fonts for the prototype, stenciling the font before routing the sides.

Partner, I hope this will have a new home in your sewing room, along with the pincushion I made you! This mini was fun to make, using Tamiko's paper-piecing template and some favorite fabrics.

The text of Luke 2:13-14 is this:
"Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying 'Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.'" (World English Bible, public domain.

At the time this sign was first hung I would guess the combination of offerings did not mean the same thing as a viewer might conclude today. Selling drugs and alcohol! The sign likely dates from the 50s. Downtown Beatrice, Nebraska.
"Macro Mondays" "Mostly White"
Most books are mostly white. If it is not illustrated, colour is usually limited to the binding. This particular book happens to be "Road Ends" by one of my favourite authors, Mary Lawson.

A rather macabre message on a National Refining Company "boy with slate" label that advertised En-Ar-Co Motor Oils and White Rose Gasoline.
The Boy Holding a Slate was evidently a popular advertising figure for the National Refining Company.
I finally got my new business cards from Amaze today. It's a plastic card, and all the text is transparent. Pretty nifty!

I created this picture with some random text, when I was seeking for inspiration... ;-)
Feel free to use the image in whatever way you want! I would be very grateful for a credit link to www.planetofsuccess.com/blog/ IF you publish this image on a reputable website (such as about.com) or in a reputable newspaper. Thank you!
Thanks and have fun with the image!
Finally, after over a year and many promises, here is my version of Arkham Asylum.
There’s no need for many explanations here in this text, because I designed an 82-page Making-of-book that explain every little step. And the best part: It’s for free.
You can find all the pages here on flickr or you can download a free PDF-version from Uploaded.to. You don’t need to create an account, just follow this LINK. It takes about 20 - 40 minutes.
Well, I hope you enjoy everything.
My resolutions (not especially for 2011)
- To be more kindly with my mirror image
- Learn to draw from real life
- Sleep more
- Be more impatient

MacArthur's history with the USS Battleship Missouri is historical to WWII.
The Telephot Vega Stereo camera of 1906 is amalgamated to the deck of the Missouri to create a camera with both a heightened stereo effect that complements the vertiginous "haiku" viewfinder on the ship deck. Both are intended, along with the trapezoidal 'cut' from the ship hull, to give the user a sense of history, of visually moving forward and looking back to the static present moment. An indicator marks the exact spot where the US-Japan surrender agreement was signed ending the Second World War. Compartments in the hull store MacArthur's House of Windsor pipe tobacco blend, the Parker Orange Senior Duofold pen used to sign the surrender agreement and an ink bottle.
