My resolutions (not especially for 2011)
- To be more kindly with my mirror image
- Learn to draw from real life
- Sleep more
- Be more impatient
This is a Cover of a holiday brochure from 1952 advertising South Shields and Marsden Bay.
Reference: DX1377/1/1
This photograph is part of a set that has been created to celebrate the opening of South Tyneside Council’s new leisure centre, Haven Point, on 28 October. It focuses in particular on life along the foreshore at South Shields during the 1950s but also includes a few images from further down the coast.
South Shields has long been a popular seaside resort and also has a proud industrial heritage. Times have changed, though, and many of the old industries such as shipbuilding and coal mining have disappeared. Rather than stand still and accept this change in fortunes, South Tyneside Council is pressing ahead with an ambitious vision to transform the Foreshore, Town Centre and Riverside areas into vibrant destinations. Haven Point is a key part of this change.
Tyne & Wear Archives and South Tyneside Local Studies Library have a vital role to play in this. As South Shields is regenerated and forever changed the Archives and Local Studies serve as its memory. We keep alive a window into the town’s past, preserving the history of people, places and industries that no longer exist. South Shields must look forward but its sense of direction will be lost if it forgets where it came from.
These images, together with a fantastic selection from South Tyneside Local Studies Library, can be seen in a digital exhibition at Haven Point. You can also see images from the Local Studies Library online at www.southtynesideimages.org.uk/.

Oops, find all my Flickr contacts on Facebook is a difficult task, first because of the number, and then because they don't all have the same name or nickname. So please, feel free to add me to your FB friends... and I'll do the same in return 。◕‿◕ღ
So far, I had a facebook account especially related to my childhood friends, my work as a teacher and my students ... I didn't want to mix everyone but my "Blythe" friends were therefore absent
So I decided to open a special account "Kikihalb Forest Tales" where you are all welcome. Feel free to add me to your FB friends... I'll do the same 。◕‿◕ღ
So soon on Facebook!!

Back before A&P sold off Eight O'clock. O couldn't find a date on this. The part that lists the dates also had the coupons, which it appears somebody used.

I can't remember a complete mural has endured so long. Fluctuat Nec Mergitur is the motto of Paris, translated "Il est battu par les flots, mais ne sombre pas": "She is tossed by the waves but does not sink". This motto is present in the city coat of arms depicting a ship floating on a rough sea. Both motto and city arms have their origins in the river Seine boatsman's corporation; this powerful hanse ruled the city's trade and commerce as early as the Roman era.
Following the November 2015 Paris attacks, the Latin-language motto had a surge in popularity and was used in social media as a symbol of Paris resistance in the face of terrorism.
No street artist dares to paint over it. But also this mural will disappear one day. But space invader PA_100 is still there.

started to play around alot more with a combination of styles. old fashion cartoon style meets abstract Picasso style!
Yesterday, my father died. When my brother and sisters and I pulled his pre-need folder this morning, we found (among the elaborate plans he'd laid out for us) these handwritten notes for how his services were to be conducted. He wrote these over 18 years ago.
