My DVD player died recently, so I decided to follow this tutorial.

There's only a couple of millimeters of focus though, so it's bloody difficult.

As many of you know I recently added a new EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM to my bag. It seems it has rained everyday since I got it. There was one evening just before dusk that I took a 5 minute walk on my patio and took a few shots to see what this this thing would do. This image and all of the images below it were taken in a matter of 10 minutes apart and it was nearly dark. There are a couple of images that show the sky and how much light there was - which wasn't much. I didn't expect what I got and was very surprised at the amount of light the lens captured and the color that came along for the ride. This images are all SOOC with no changes of any kind..

I thought there might be a few of you interested in how this lens performs under these low light conditions on a Canon 5D2.

It's always a good idea to run a test roll through a new camera. While I don't usually post those rolls I really liked this one.

testing out light.

Running a bit later with this weeks submission to the 52. Thursday/Friday is my target period to take the shot for the week.

Lots of trial and error with this shot. An urchin test collected from the beach a couple of weeks ago, and a piece of bog wood that probably detached from the preserved peat buried under the sand.

Lighting is provided by a cheap torch from the right of camera. No fill. As the project continues I'll have turns at getting more creative lighting film shots.

This is the interior of the 1951 USAF Test Chart on a Canon 9000F Mk II.

The test chart was wet mounted directly against the scanner's platen glass using standard mineral oil.

Using a test chart like this is fraught with its own set of issues, but at least it's consistent.

In terms of resolution, we can refer to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1951_USAF_resolution_test_chart to figure out what the scanner is resolving.

Scanning at 4800 dpi doesn't appear to do awful things to the captured image, at least in terms of wet mounting this test chart.

This was scanned at 4800 dpi and 16 bits, then cropped and saved to a jpeg.
