Taking the IGH project bike out for another test ride. Something on the frame or fork (or BB or hub) is irregularly pinging when I'm riding the thing, so I'll need to look over it with a bright light to see if any of the joints are failing. I'm guessing it's the fork, because the legs are spread a little too wide and might be complaining about the ad hoc cold setting I'm doing?

After I track down the ping & get some bottle bosses brazed on I'll run it up to Sauvie Island to see how it deals with the 2.5 unpaved miles at the north end of Reeder Road.

Martijn prepares a red Kettwiesel with electronic pedalling support for a testride.

The test will cover the Hase Kettwiesel, the HP Vélotechnik Gekko, and the HP V;elotechnik Scorpion; all with hybrid technology.

Visited Clever Cycles today. Tested the Surly Moonlander! I haven't "needed" a bike this bad in a looong time. So many new touring frontiers...oh my.

While not a Banshee, the Transition BottleRocket is often mentioned in the same discussion as the Wildcard, and was therefore welcome to the shootout. With 5.5" of travel out back, proven geometry, and arguably one of the best looking frames on the market, the BottleRocket was on my list when considering a full suspension bike.

The BottleRocket is a ripping descender, and loves to get in the air. If these were the only characteristics I was looking for, this bike would score well. However, even with platform damping such as Fox's ProPedal, the BottleRocket is a chore to pedal. Mt. Fromme is not the most challenging climb, but a bike that works against you the whole way up doesn't promote this kind of climb, and results in either the need for a different bike or a ride to the top.

Since I'm looking for a Fromme bike, the pedal-unfriendly BottleRocket was out (I knew this in July when I swapped bikes with Billy for a pedal up the mountain). This bike loves to carve berms, get boosty, and point down steep things. If you don't mind the pedal bob, it's a great bike for more than just a fashion statement. Khaled has a Specialized Enduro and a Chameleon in the fleet, so his BottleRocket can be saved for the occasions that he needs to look cool.

A few kms before Asueyi, we were flagged down by Mr Osuou... He told us his daughter, Comfort, had been late returning from school, but was registered for the program, and if we waited... she would surely come.

In the meantime Osuou introduced us to his family, including little Faustina, Osuou's fifth and final born.

This evening I was delighted to make a testride on this beautiful horse. Oh yeah, he really wanted me to eat the dust! But I've got some western blood after all it seems. So I stayed in the saddle! Yeah! Now I've to find me a place for instructions. But tomorrow my instructor is back from vacation, so I can give a big smile to her. Hope she is ok I'm bring an owner's horse to class. By the way: Talent will not be mine - but the owner needs somebody to ride him!

I wanted to buy this car and took it for a testride. After just 10 minutes of driving, it broke down. Apart from that, the car is really nice ;-)

Christian and Gunda didn't take only their Airolos tandem and Birdy red with them, but also two home built folding bikes. This is one of them. Maybe Gunda could give some more information as a comment?

On sunday june 14 2008 we visited the Ökowerk at Grunewald in Berlin after we rode the origamiride through the Grunewald.

See the pictures of that tour in set:

At Ökowerk there were several activities: testriding Birdys, historical bicycle show, slides about touring in Madagascar by Dietmar Böhm, the story about Bird in Japan, uphill races, and several contests for the lightest and the most beautifully tuned Birdy.

When I approached the Mueum (Kladow, some 30 km West of Berlin) I feared high entrance fee and to leave the bike outside as I did not bring a lock along. Quite surprised to read at the entrance that the museum does not take any fee and the sign 'Bicycles and Skateboards welcome". In Germany !!

Anyway the museum proved to be quite interesting in a successful effort to show the use of planes in the history of German warfare. Very well done is the opposition of East-German and West-German hardware during the cold war. I was not aware that with joining NATO (West-)Germany was obliged to have own nuclear-carrying aircraft.

It will be hard to find another place where you can see MIG / SU meters from F104, Phantom and all their brethrens.

I'm sorry that I don't have any information about these bicycles, but intriguing they were for certain.

More or less in this configuration this bike will take me around in New Zealand, from late February to mid April. Will be uploading a photo in the coming month of how it currently looks.

Today I took the sigma 150-500 for a testride. Nothing special but this was the only one that I find worth of showing in terms of sharpness and contrast.

I really got some mixed feelings on this lens...On one hand the complete set confirms my fears. Wide open on 500mm isn`t great and most of the time quite soft with low contrast. OTOH, when looking at this particulair image there is a very good possibility that I need some serious practice with this 500mm before the final judgement. Especially because I had a similair experience with the 100-300F4, that one took also some time to get used to.

Next time I`ll bring a monopod and try to keep the ISO lower. 2B continued...
