Tesla design models have influenced our intellects with clean power, high safety ratings and a wide array of 21st century technologies. Tesla, the purveyor of premium electric cars utilizes supercar acceleration and cat-like reflexes to also appeal to our lust for power and the primal urge to control and direct it. The Model 3 will begin pricing at $35,000 which is roughly half the cost of a base Model S. The base car will accelerate 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds, enjoys an electric range of at least 215 miles per charge, seats five comfortably and provides storage from front and rear trunks. Expect deliveries yearend 2017.
I was seriously doubting whether I would get chance to buy the latest Matchbox Tesla Model S but as ever Morrisons came to the rescue. A quick wander around the store ironically away from their toy department revealed several examples on clip strips. Unashamedly I bought as many as I could see due to the sheer excitement this casting has caused with collectors. With the real vehicle becoming a sight on U.K. roads this Tesla S model is just as relevant this side of the pond. Great detailing with those excellent wheels definitely make this a Matchbox must have. Mint and boxed.

The latest 2019 recolour of the Hot Wheels Tesla Model S which looks very similar to one introduced a few years ago now. Sleek, glossily finished and well detailed but for accuracy it pales in comparison to its Matchbox bedfellow. Why bother Mattel?

NUMMI - New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc.
New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) was an automobile manufacturing plant in Fremont, California, opened in 1984 and closed in 2010. The plant is located in the East Industrial area of Fremont between Interstates 880 and 680.
NUMMI was established at the site of a former General Motors Fremont Assembly site that had been closed two years earlier in 1982 (GM plant since 1960). GM and Toyota reopened the factory as a joint venture in 1984 to manufacture vehicles to be sold under both brands.
The first model NUMMI produced here was the Chevrolet Nova (1984–1988). This was followed by the Geo Prizm (1989–1997), the Chevrolet Prizm (1998–2002) and the Hilux (1991–1995, predecessor of the Tacoma), as well as the Toyota Voltz, the Japanese right-hand drive version of the Pontiac Vibe. Both of the latter are based on the Toyota Matrix. Beginning in September 1988, the NUMMI plant produced the Toyota Corolla compact car. In 1995, it began producing the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Production of the Pontiac Vibe hatchback was discontinued in August 2009 as GM phased out the Pontiac brand.
In 2009 the US federal government took over GM and pulled it out of the joint venture. Toyota offered a version of its Prius hybrid that would be built at the factory and sold as a GM model, but was rebuffed.
Up to April 2010, NUMMI built an average of 6000 vehicles a week, or nearly eight million cars and trucks. The NUMMI plant ceased operations on April 1, 2010 ending the Toyota-GM joint venture. California's last automobile manufacturing plant saw its last car, a red Toyota Corolla, roll off the assembly line.
The 370-acre, 5.5 million square feet NUMMI plant was a major employer for California. The closure of the plant resulted in 5,500 lost jobs at the plant, and impacted more than 300 California companies that supplied parts or services to the only automobile manufacturing plant on the West Coast. The facility contributed to the employment of more than 20,000 persons throughout California, more than 50,000 people throughout the United States.
Tesla Motors and Toyota announced a partnership to work on electric vehicle development, which included Tesla's partial purchase of the former NUMMI site, mainly consisting of the factory building. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the Tesla S sedan will be built at this "Tesla Factory"..

Yes Matchbox fans, U.K. collectors really did have to wait until MARCH 2018 before we could get our hands on the last case of....2017! Many including myself never thought we would see it but eventually it briefly appeared at ASDA and meant an opportunity to grab a few of these Tesla Model S models.
This was this castings third recolour giving it a super clean and crisp appearance thanks to the judicious use of sparkling metallic white paint.
Looking miles better than the HW equivalent it continues the Matchbox tradition of making wonderfully stock licensed street cars with a bit of an unpredictable edge to its actual choice of vehicle. Lots of intricate front and rear detailing and a full length glass roof revealing an accurate interior.

On a short drive to the shops and garden centre today in this beautiful hot sunshine I managed to see two full sized Tesla Model S cars which really made me realise how much more relevant this Matchbox version is to U.K. collectors than many other U.S. based castings in the range. To me it was just going to be a brief flash in the pan for Californian eco fashionistas and then would disappear like Fisker but for it to be a success here in the U.K. it really must be one hell of a good car. The same can be said for the Matchbox version which is deliciously well detailed with full tampo treatment front and rear, a deep metallic finish and accurate full width glass roof. Unfortunately the new blue version doesn't appear to have been sold here! This red one was bought from Morrisons back in 2015 when I managed to get quite a few of them. Mint and boxed.
Having taken the shot, I then noticed that the driver was grinning at me, so went over to say hello.
He told me he'd only had the car for 3 months but it was love at first sight and nothing could spoil it now!
I have to admit that, having had a good look round the driving controls (and at the opening roof!) I was rather taken with it … though not with the price, way above my budget!
Anyway, it whiled away a few minutes whilst he was charging the car! Pup was quite impressed with it too!

Not much to show so far, our Tesla most likely will not arrive before some day in October. A pretty basic S 60, Solid White Paint, Body Color Roof, 19" Silver Slipstream Wheels, Black Alcantara Headliner, Dark Ash Wood Decor, Multi-Pattern Black Seats, with the Premium Upgrades Package as the only option with costs. Autopilot Convenience Features will be added after delivery. We can't await to finally have it!
