Terrace Gardens, Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sigiriya is truly unique not only for its remaining ruins, but also for its stunning location.

The palace ruins on the summit of Sigiriya rock consist of several massive brick walls and pools, which were carved into the solid rock, and the sheer drop-offs on any side of the summit offer panoramic views in all directions.

The entry to the summit leads through massive Lion's claws which are the remains of what was once a much larger structure. In ancient times, the stairway lead straight into the mouth of a lion, and the name Sigiriya, which literally means Lions Rock, stems from this impressive monument.

The Royal gardens below the rock are among the most important and spectacular features of Sigiriya, and are considered to be among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world.

Upper Terrace, Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA, Landscape

This picture was taken in Mu Cang Chai - Viet Nam. You can see terraced fields in many places all over the world. Mu Cang Chai is one of those place, which is very famous with terraced fields in Vietnam. Those terraced fields are very beautiful in the beginning & the end of a crop. Last summer, I came to Mu Cang Chai & I was absolutely attracted by beauty of those fields.

Waterfalls are undoubtedly one of the most magical natural wonders in the world. It’s incredible how they can be so beautiful and calm yet roaring and powerful at the same time.

Bali's famous rice terraces, located near Jatiluwih - Bali, Indonesia.

Go back over 2,000 years when hard-working farmers with primitive hand tools began carving the stepped terraces out of steep hill sides.

Generation after generation has extended and kept them in meticulous shape out of necessity, rice is the staple food of the islanders.

Cyprus Street, Bethnal Green. Much of this terraced street (albeit not these specific houses) is listed Grade II by Historic England

Rievaulx Terrace is a site located in the North York Moors National Park, in North Yorkshire, England, overlooking Rievaulx Abbey and owned by the National Trust.

At one end stands the Ionic Temple, inspired by the Temple of Fortuna Virilis in Rome. It was intended as a banqueting house and the central table is still set as if for a meal. It is decorated with elaborate ceiling paintings and is furnished in the period style. The basement housed the kitchen and living quarters and nowadays it holds an exhibition on English landscape design in the 18th century

Terrace seats? It's not that stylish. It's just a man drinking alone at the storefront. This is also a preventive measure.

The alumina tanks forming 6S45 to Fort William cast shadows on the gable ends of the North Blyth terraces in the low morning sun, with 66740 waiting for departure time. Thursday 21.4.16.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces, located on the southern slopes of Ailao Mountain in Yuanyang County (part of Honghe Hani Autonomous Prefecture) and located in the south of Yunnan Province has been a masterpiece of the ingenuity of the Hani people for generations. Southern Ailao Mountain, with this typical tiered landscape, is famed for its unique frontier scenery.

The Hani people's ancestors came to this steep mountain area 2,500 years ago. In their struggle against the difficult terrain they successfully established the terraces, where they grew rice in order to make a living. The technology of developing fertile land on rugged mountain slopes didn't spread all over China and Southeast Asia until 14th century. The creativity of the Hani people turned this mountain area into one of artistic beauty. In recognition, the Ming Dynasty emperor granted the title of 'Skillful Sculptor' to Hani people and their good reputation was passed down from generation to generation. At present, known as 'land sculpture' the terraced fields have been being officially acknowledged by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site.

a bit of a fuller more sweeping view of the terraces at Linderhof Palace in Bavaria... I was about mid level here I believe...very green with all plants life just coming alive in early May...you can see where I took the previous image just about lower middle ...I could have looked at this scene for eons..and never tired of it...but we were off to more beauty and the Bavarian countryside was beckoning to us and heading to explore the WEISS CHURCH or in German known as the" Weiskirche"...not far away..Church in the meadow...

Kaiserstuhl, a small mountain range of volcanic origin but also a masterpiece of landscape architecture. During the last centuries people built hundreds of terraces for agriculture. At the beginning they were growing mainly corn, fruits and vegetables. Today 99% of the area is used vor winegrowing.

Overlooking the colorful vine terraces near Oberbergen. The mountain in the background is called Totenkopf (skull) and marks the highest point of the Kaiserstuhl.

This fine terrace building from the Victorian era is part of the wonderful streetscape of Cameron Street (we had a longer look at it in the previous photograph). Those fine arches and the decorative features on the building really stand out in the setting sunlight.
