Dufferin Terrace is a marvelous boardwalk high above the St. Lawrence River in Quebec City. It was named for Lord Dufferin, the governor of Canada from 1872 and 1878 who oversaw its construction in 1878.

A small podium that leads from the Seminary to the Terrace provided an opportunity to address the Gatherers. It even has a built in lectern.

Richly detailed facades have stepped breakforwards, the main feature being a 2-storey rectangular bay surmounted by dentil pediment, with wide corniced window to second floor and mock thermal window above... HISTORICAL NOTE: RW and C Jearrad bought the Lansdown development from Pearson Thompson c1830 and continued building to their own designs. The most impressive example in Cheltenham of a terrace of quasi semi-detached houses (qqv Nos 114-124 Bath Road and Nos 27-32 Montpellier Villas), giving the impression of linked pavilions, a type conceived in the late C18 as an integral part of the Picturesque ideal in urban planning (qv The Paragon, Black Heath, London, 1793). Verey describes this as the `most original terrace in Cheltenham', and an important part of the overall setting in Malvern Place. EH Listing
The contrasting green stone creates a full circular border. Plantings will go between the edge of the terrace and the house.
I was surprised to see terrace farms in this area where it is not commonly practiced. The small hut in the bottom was definitely an eye-catcher!

These rice terraces are up to 3000 tiers high and have an extremely intelligent irrigation system. Also, animals kept in the top layers supply the fertilizer in form of dung, which gets washed down every tier through the irrigation channels. these terraces are known to be 1300 years old (from bronze excavations found nr. Kunming only in the 1950s) and maybe older. To this day, the Hani people (aka Akha in some countries of southern Asia) work on and create ever new terraces. A wonder of this world!

Built on the former site of the National Hotel on Christina St. in 1892 as St. Andrew's Rink. Around 1910 the main floor saw a Ford dealership move in, with a later brick addition to the front. Kenwick Terrace, a popular dance hall featuring famous big bands was located for many years on the second floor. It was last used as an A&P supermarket from 1952 until it was razed for parking in the late 1970's.
