FSWW held nine ICT trainings for cooperative members: two in Biga; two in Mardin; one in Hatay; and four in Killis as part of its MicroNet project. Trainings were based on how to use a web-based business portal that will include cooperative entrepreneurs' profiles and information needed to start, sustain, and improve their micro-initiatives.
Following the training, participants planned to use the web portal to make contacts with other women entrepreneurs, create new marketing opportunities together, and develop new product models. They especially liked how the web portal provided success stories, which they found inspiring. In one of the trainings it was the first time the women had used a computer. Some participants decided to take action on new business initiatives. For example, one bought a sewing machine and planned to open a small shop to sell her products.

This image is from the first photo shoot, entitled ‘Invisible Me’, of my Unit 3 project which involved me photographing strangers in their natural, un-posed setting without their knowledge. The image depicts a smartly dressed man who, if you look carefully, is preoccupied by 3 types of electronic devices – his phone, laptop and earphones. Although you may not notice, I was very close to him but had to zoom out in order to include his entire body in the framing. This photo stood out when browsing through the contact sheets as I found it amusing yet sad that he was oblivious to the fact that I was standing very close to him with a modestly large camera but somehow he was too preoccupied with and engrossed in his technological devices to even notice. This made me wonder how close I could get before I got his attention but the fear of his reaction stopped me going any further. That photo can almost be used as a metaphor for how today, society is so totally absorbed into our technology that we can easily fail to recognise and understand what’s going on in our surroundings.

I have a fondness for machines of all sorts. I find symmetry, balance, and each machine has a story to tell from industrialism and it's capitalistic roots. It has purpose and function.
