Playing on the theme of the company's name, the new packaging features extensive imagery of city life in two categories - blue for professional products and magenta for consumer. Each package features bright colors, contrasted with rich blacks and matte textures contrasted with glossy UV areas.
He was absolutely adorable.. at the IS246 (as in SIMS at UC Berkeley) Foundations of New Media, Poster Show... explaining the game, the parts of his online world to represent fashion for people and things (think house decor for the things).
For example, he said that I could make an avatar of myself, and try on clothes, or see what I look like with a guitar strapped onto my back (you know, to see if I look cool or not). Well.. needless to say I found this utterly charming. Mainly because women need to try things on themselves, their real selves, to see what something is like, because an avatar is artificial and won't show what things are really like, and we tend to be picky about what we put on our bodies, how colors look with skintone, or hair or whatever, and it was a very sweet if not quite accurate view of what women would like to have in a fashion game. But he was so ebullient about his plans, that all I could do was be delighted by this.. even if I don't think it will work in the way he intends it. Instead, I could see women playing with fashion, putting together lists of styles and eras, little design worlds that fit together, and then remixing them. That sounds really fun. In other words, paper dolls for grownups.
So I said to him that I couldn't wait til he started the usability testing on this. And he said he couldn't wait either. !!! Well.. let the testing begin!
Oh to be a 22ish year old boy developer.. because necessity is the mother of invention.. or mother is the necessity of invention.
