A few weeks ago, dawn teased to explode, then peetered out completely. Such is the luck of landscape photography ! Still going through wedding images but looking forward to a weekend of potential thunderstorms locally!
Teasels get their name from their use in the woollen industry where they were used to tease the wool in a process called carding. This meant scratching the wool to align all the fibres in the same direction and so produce a finer cloth.
The dried flower heads of this wild plant were either used by hand or, with the industrial revolution, they were skewered on a steel rod which was then rotated by water or steam power. Some cultivars were bred that favoured tall heads in cylinders of even width. It's seen as an invasive species in the US.
They are not used today, naturally, but you still get them in abundance in the old woollen industry areas such as the one I live in - the village used to have half a dozen or more mills driven by water power. The area had a bountiful supply of natural springs that supplied water for the mills and for the washing of the wool.
Originally I processed this in colour for the Friday Flora group today, but I thought I would try it in monochrome. I decided I rather liked it this way as it emphasised the shapes and textures. It was processed in Nik Silver Effects with cyanotype toning. I hope you like it too.
I’ll probably do something with the colour version sometime as it's a very photogenic subject with a crown of lilac florets in the flower.

The first shot out of Maysville, KY was the great tease by the sun. Some clouds thinned and she broke through a bit to lead me on. But it was too good to be true. For once this assortment of U-Boats struggled past me on the climb out of town, that was it. But hey, we take what we can get, right??

The storm front is closing in, teasing humans with it's strength. Seek shelter, finish your chores, quit the fields, go home, I'll win this day, and the next as well.
I was hoping it would be something but it wound up being nothing!
Had some clouds that were building up in the South last night that I thought had some potential so I loaded up and headed out. Watched clouds drift by from 6 PM till a little after 8 PM and this is all I got. It was a tease, just enough to keep me hanging on for a little bit longer.....I'm hoping this isn't the monsoons going out with a whimper!
