I'm stumped as to what this is. The small fingery leaves are leading me to think some form of rhododendron family member but the organisation of the leaves and the make-up of the flowers doesn't seem to fit. Please put me out of my misery.

OK, well this ant IS unusual. If it is an ant.

I've never seen one this big before.

When it was feeding at the flower, with those long legs, it was like watching a giraffe bend down to drink at a waterhole.

Check back to the size of the flowers/my hand to get an idea of how big this Thing is.

After the ant finished feeding at the flower, it came over to investigate me.

Now that's unusual, too. Most of the other single biggish ants i've encountered have been quite camera/person shy.

I wish i'd got that head in focus, but when the biggest ant i've ever seen comes charging towards me, i do a rincewind and retreat.
