Leptospermum scoparium, commonly called mānuka, manuka myrtle, New Zealand teatree, broom teatree, or just tea tree, is a species of flowering plant in the myrtle family Myrtaceae, native to New Zealand and southeast Australia. It's the source of Manuka Honey and teatree oil. From Wikipedia.

Ocean Beach, Tasmania, near Strahan. Behind many miles of the beach is just mineral sand and organic soil with typical coastal grass and teatree brush covering dunes. Parts of it are crumbling piece by piece onto the beach, which makes the beach-sand a curious mixture of light and dark.

butterflyblue: @divasatanica666 thank you Debbie - this is just on the edge of real bushland Aboriginal land which is part of a National Park - which has a teatree lake a place for traditional birthing. It's basically across the road where I live - but I don't walk in the real bush much - too freaked out by snakes

Leaves narrowly elliptical to almost circular, broadest near middle, 7-22mm long.
Narrow-leafed form of L. scoparium may be confused with L. continentale, which is a smaller, less leafy shrub, with leaves broadest near the base.
Spreading leaves, more than 3mm wide, almost flat.
Fruit ofter 8mm or more in dia.
Leptospermum continentale - Prickly Teatree.
Leaves narrowly ovate, 5-13mm long, broadest near base.
Floral tube glabrous.
Spreading leaves, 3mm wide, short flat incurved from margins.
Fruit 7mm or less in dia.
Leptospermum juniperinum
Erect leaves, 2mm or less wide, almost flat.
Fruit less than 7mm dia.

Flowers are quite small, around the size of the fingernail of your smallest finger but can be so prolific that it is difficult to see the plant during flowering.
