White-bellied Sea-Eagles, N.S.W. South Coast

While walking along Deep Creak beach, an eagle was perched on some driftwood. The eagle allowed the photographer to get within 25 ft. without moving. (did not attempt to get any closer) Took a few photos of the eagle then decided to close in on it's business end.

With a Voigtländer Talon 125mm f3 projector lens. Pre-clean.

My journey continued from the fox to the eagles. Plainfin Midshipman are strange and interesting fish that live in deep water until spring, when they swim into the shallows to bear their young. The females lay their eggs and return to the depths while the male remains to stand guard. This takes place in the intertidal zone where they can withstand exposure to air during low tide, breathing through their skin. Males "sing" during mating season, which comes out as a low hum, perceptible to nearby humans. They also have photophores along their body which light up when they are in deep water to both help them capture food and possibly also camouflage them. Watching the Great Blue Herons catching one after another in the shallows demonstrated the survival challenge for these fish. Herons would start first in the morning soon to be followed by bald eagles, often hazing the herons who gave up their prey with loud and bitter complaint. It was quite a show. My objective, besides having a great time doing what I love and meeting lots of other photographers, was to capture bird to bird interactions. I was inspired by Mark Smith's photography, who sets the standard for such shots and was quite helpful. Check him out: photoworkshopsandtours.com/. Here are a few shots. I'll post a few more in another post and then make a gallery of my keepers for my website. Thanks for following the journey. Mike

Almost certainly this individual died of causes other than an eagle attack, and this is a case of scavenging a meal .

Even in this shot we can see the swan is much bigger, and in my observations Trumpeters do not react to Bald Eagle flyby - even if everything else in a field (ducks, geese& gulls) "put up" and fly away.

Saw this hawk on the wires and I like this crop of his powerful claws.

The biggest change is under the hood, with an Evo IV driveline swap and a new custom up-pipe.

The header/ up-pipe is made from all the old pneumatic hose trimmings I had saved up and some krazy glue. Sturdy? Quite. Purist? Oh heavens no.

And yes, that technic bushing is glued there forever. But don't fret, it was cracked to begin with. Recycling ftw.

Introducing the Talon, AGI's new super-class luxury sports car.

When you want to drive fast, and look good doing it, you choose the Talon. Style? Check. Sophistication? Check. Extreme risk of speeding tickets galore? Check check check.

*Note: this was actually a design built 2 years ago now, but sent time being refined. I still have plans for a version of this car that will have an opening bonnet with the engine on display.

... pointe ;) Smile on saturday!

I had an incredible opportunity to go to Kachemak Bay in Alaska to photograph our national bird, the Bald Eagle. To capture this shot, I had to lie on the floor of the boat with it's back end dropped down to the edge of the water. It really was a cool adventure!

A fantastic 24 hour session at Tom Robinson's Wildlife Photography Hides hosted by Andy Harris ( www.andyharrisphotography.com ). Superb session hosted by Andy at Tom's excellent hide. It was my first visit so it was fantastic to be guided through all of the finer details of how to get the best opportunities and shots. It was a long night and sadly the otters didn't arrive, but Andy made sure that everything was in place for some fantastic visits by the Tawny Owls and a male Kingfisher, with some bonus fish eating rats and moorhens. Well worth a visit, contact Andy via his website.

Canon 5d Mk4 kindly provided for the session by Charles Neave.

I reworked this to make the subject identifiable (I think). Thanks for the feedback!

Bald eagle in action over the river ... a fish is about to have a bad day ...

With wings fully extended this bald eagle was photographed as it headed in my direction. With the sun behind me it cast the shadow of his legs and talons onto his flared tail. This was photographed in rural Osceola County near Kenansville, Florida.

Eagle in the classic pose of zoning in on a fish and testing the wind to see which way to best approach. If you see this, be ready to start tracking the eagle downwards.

Bad time to be this fish...

Warm weather melted most of the ice from the ponds at Farmington Bay so I don't think they'll be any more good photo-ops out there this year.

The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), our national bird, is the only eagle unique to North America. The bald eagle's scientific name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless. Bald eagles are found throughout most of North America, from Alaska and Canada to northern Mexico. About half of the world's 70,000 bald eagles live in Alaska. Combined with British Columbia's population of about 20,000, the northwest coast of North America is by far their greatest stronghold for bald eagles. They flourish here in part because of the salmon. Dead or dying fish are an important food source for all bald eagles. Though the numbers are small by comparison with Alaska or British Columbia, the Great Salt Lake hosts more than 1,200 birds each winter, makiing it the largest concentration of this species in the interior west.
