A series of photos taken along the track from Old Julia Hut to Tumbledown Creek, Taipo River valley, Arthur's Pass National Park, NZ.
Crossing the Taipo River via this cableway was a lot of fun - though getting there wasn't.
We tried to cross the river upstream but decided it was too deep and fast, so the alternate is to climb up a very steep loose rocky gully/track to a bluff and then back down to almost river level where the cableway is situated. The climb was so steep I didn't want to stop to take any photos! But going across in the cableway was great with good views of the river.
Not far to our hut for the night from here.

The Taipo River drains right to left into the Taramakau valley. The prominent step up to the right of the Otira Highway marks the trace of the Alpine Fault, which runs northward through the saddle in the distance (upper left). Tussock-clad peak on far right is Rangi Taipo (1459 m).
This spider made my trip to Feng (Fung) Yuan Butterfly Reserve in Taipo Hong Kong worthwhile. It is a female Cyrtarchne sp. Would appreciate ID of the species. About 5mm wide.
