Love me, love my tablet

The Tablift is the best tablet holder for uneven surfaces like the bed. It's lightweight, instantly foldable and durable.

This is my first try at tablet weaving - a simple zig zag repeat.

St Peter's in Greatworth is a small building consisting solely of west tower, nave and chancel. The nave itself appears to have been rebuilt in a rather plain fashion in the 19th century, the tower appears to be 14th century whilst the chancel is the oldest part with it's 13th century Early English lancets.

The interior is quite plain, with few furnishings of note and no stained glass, instead late 19th century patterned glazing with tinted colouring fills every window.

The main items of interest are the monuments mounted on the north wall of varying dates and styles with some good details (particularly the eccentrically assymmetrical rococco tablet behind the pulpit) dating from the late 17th and 18th centuries.

We used to buy these tablets for a nickle. They were de rigour for all school kids back in the 40's and 50's along with a #2 yellow lead pencil. There were NO ball point pens back when I went to school!

The paper was white. We did not have ball point pens back in the early 50's.

You could not use a ball point pen in the bank or post office back in those days. You used an 'ink pen' with a 'nib' on it, dipping it into an ink pot to load it for writing, there was always a 'blotter' (usually green) for blotting the remaining wet ink from the paper.

There was a 2nd tablet option, the yellow 'Golden Rod' tablets, which we also used.

I could not find a reference to them.

They had yellow paper. I personally preferred the Golden Rod Tablets, but used the 'Big Chief" occasionally.

La tulipe de gauche a été tissée en premier. Celle de droite , à l'autre extrémité de la bande de 220cm, a été faite 15 jours plus tard et montre un progrès dans la qualité du tissage du même motif.

Tulip on the left was woven first. Tulip on the right done at the end of a 220cm band 2 weeks later shows a better weaving of same motif.

This nice young lady is responsible for the iron age exhibition. Very experienced at all sorts of weaving techniques she's demonstrating tablet weaving here. A technique found in iron age europe and also popular with the vikings.

WGU upgraded my laptop to a tablet PC. Here it is shown with the screen up so I can use the keyboard.

I've wanted to make a copy of the Emerald Tablet - a seminal magic text - for a long time. But just copying out an English translation didn't seem to be enough. I'd finally wired together enough bits of these wooden plates, though, to copy the text a line or a half-line at a time, onto these Chinese-bamboo-book-style panels. It's not tied with silk thread, and it's not perfect, but it's more awesome than I originally expected.
