Beautiful bedroom in the National Trust's Belton House.
The story goes that when they came to hang this hand-painted wallpaper there was great alarm when it was realised that there was a shortfall and the paper would not cover the whole room. As they could not order more the novel solution was to move the huge rear wall forward by three feet! As a bonus, this trick made a neat servants' passageway behind the re-positioned wall.

Origin: Japan. Circa: 1880. Period: 19th Century. Japanese Satsuma Gold Gilt Oil Lamp, Meiji Period ca. 1880. Dynamic scene of Buddhist Saints (Rakans) surrounded by earthly followers. Border of floral and geometric shapes. Oil lamp is American made by C.H. McKenney and probably not originally made for Satsuma vase. Glass globe is also a recent addition. In excellent condition. 17 1/4" high x 5 1/2" diameter. Satsuma ware is a style of Japanese earthenware originally from the Satsuma region of what is today southern Kyūshū. Today, it can be divided into two distinct categories: the original plain dark clay early Satsuma made in Satsuma from around 1600, and the elaborately decorated export Satsuma ivory-bodied pieces which began to be produced in the nineteenth century in various Japanese cities. By adapting their gilded polychromatic enamel overglaze designs to appeal to the tastes of western consumers, manufacturers of the latter made Satsuma ware one of the most recognized and profitable export products of the Meiji period. We took several components from broken lamps and chandeliers, added some colorful paint and lights to bring this creation to life. There are five arms, each with a frosted C7 bulb. The center globe is milk white with the lights are off, but bright pink with "eyes" when on.
A three-way rotary switch in the base controls the arms and head separately or together. It makes a great lamp and night light. 16"H x 17"W All bulbs included.

The Bagpuss Chair - just an old, saggy leather chair, baggy, and a bit loose at the seams, but we love it.
Used a tripod and two very low power output flashes, on board nd sb600, just to put enough light onto this side of chair to be able to pull some detail back, really wanted main light to seem to be the table lamp - I think its worked.
