We were out hiking the back edge of our property today, there are several deep Arroyo's with many natural sculptured features. This is my wife sipping a drink at what we call "Table Rock". Above her is a beautiful meadow, and I'm standing 40 ft below in the Arroyo. Some of the Arroyo's are easily 60 ft deep and narrow. When the monsoon rains come every year the water flows can be treacherous, deep, and a real torrent. There are Arroyo's all over the foothills of the Spanish Peak mountains. This rock over hundreds of years or more, was eroded all around creating the table like structure.

Few from our Christmas Day celebrations with the family, excuse our messy kitchen, always the hub of everything here. I always add table toys to keep everyone amused, we had so many races with the wind-ups, Charlie ate at least three on the day!! Hope you all had a wonderful day.

Santa Claus (also known as Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, or Santa) is a legendary figure originating in Western Christian culture who is said to bring gifts during the late evening and overnight hours on Christmas Eve. He is said to accomplish this with the aid of Christmas elves, who make the toys in his workshop, and with the aid of flying reindeer who pull his sleigh through the air.

The popular conception of Santa Claus originates from folklore traditions surrounding the 4th-century Christian bishop Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. Saint Nicholas became renowned for his reported generosity and secret gift-giving. The image of Santa Claus shares similarities with the English figure of Father Christmas, and they are both now popularly regarded as the same person.

Santa is generally depicted as a portly, jolly, white-bearded man, often with spectacles, wearing a red coat with white fur collar and cuffs, white-fur-cuffed red trousers, a red hat trimmed with white fur, a black leather belt and boots, carrying a bag full of gifts for children. He is popularly associated with a deep, hearty laugh, frequently rendered in Christmas literature as "ho, ho, ho!"

This image originated in North America during the 19th century, influenced by Dutch immigrants who brought the legend of Sinterklaas ("Saint Nicholas") to 17th-century New Amsterdam (present-day New York City), and has been maintained and reinforced through song, radio, television, children's books, family Christmas traditions, films, and advertising.

Basingstoke college students have been busy getting festive with a very special sleigh project. Six students from Basingstoke College of Technology (BCOT) enrolled in automotive, construction and art courses had worked together to design, build and decorate a new charity sleigh, ready for the Round Table tour of Basingstoke during December 2023. Santa and his elves were touring different areas in the town, from Kempshott to Old Basing, raising money for charities. The sleigh was officially handed over by the students to the Basingstoke Round Table in early December, ready for the start of the tour.

Basingstoke Round Table is a vibrant community organisation that has been fostering fellowship, service, and fun since its founding in 1935. Part of the wider Round Table movement, the group is dedicated to bringing together men ages 18-45 from across the Basingstoke area to share experiences, build friendships, and give back to the community through charitable events and activities.

Basingstoke Round Table, play an active role in supporting the local community through engaging events and meaningful fundraising activities. The two main annual initiatives are the Santa Sleigh Fundraiser and our participation in the Hatch Warren Community Centre Summer Fair, both of which aim to raise money for local charities and community projects.

The Santa Sleigh Fundraiser is a cherished tradition, bringing festive cheer to families across Basingstoke during the holiday season. With Santa himself touring the streets, spreading joy while collecting donations that go directly to supporting those in need within our community.

I wonder which bright spark put out the chairs?

The chair on the left faces the entrance to the cafe, and the one on the right looks at a row of parked cars on the road. Maybe that's the view their clientele prefer ... but I know which direction I'd rather be looking :))
