Traveling to new places is always exciting. After the initial settling in, I find myself wandering outside to collect little treasures to study. Early one morning I found this empty seed pod under a tree, but totally forgot to take a picture of the surrounding vegetation. That means I have no idea of the identity of said hard blossom shaped form.

In New Mexico, the railways are filled with trains both cargo and passenger, but no matter, the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular as a new day begins or an old day ends.

My wonderful travelling companion of the last thirty-five years, shown here having polished off a large Mythos on our first night in Greece. Yamas! :)
I certainly had their full attention for a few moments while I snapped off some quick photos before leaving them to explore this section of the forest on their own.
Following Germany's surrender and the end of the war, the governments of East Berlin and West Berlin restored it in a joint effort. The holes were patched, but were visible for many years following the war.
Vehicles and pedestrians could travel freely through the gate, located in East Berlin, until the Berlin Wall was built, 13 August 1961. Brandenburg Gate border crossing was later closed on 14 August 1961. West Berliners gathered on the western side of the gate to demonstrate against the Berlin Wall, among them West Berlin's governing Mayor Willy Brandt, who had spontaneously returned from a federal election campaigning tour in West Germany earlier on the same day. It was closed throughout the Berlin Wall period until 22 December 1989.

Today was Trail Ride. I had the chance to ride this pretty mare with who, pretty much, everything can happen and she won't move an ear. She's a keeper.

Hamburger Bahnhof once was a train station in Berlin, now it's a museum.
Traveling around SL one can find several nice places. Slam is the name of a brand store who has also a great forest that worths the visit.
Isn’t it amazing how God’s plan is so perfect! How we are provided for not just in available offerings but the timing needed for our survival. I cannot imagine that the plant really cares when it produces its fruit, but most do when we need them the most, in the fall to be gathered for the winter that is just around the corner.
In the case of the animal and human populations around Nome, some migrate, some hibernate while others tough it out in place. But all take the fall to fatten up, stock up or just fill up on God’s bounty.
Whether it was living in Alaska from 1985-87, or visiting in 2019, 2024 and 2025 I have always felt called to seek out and consume at least a few tundra berries. It started as a curiosity that soon morphed into a communion of giving thanks to the absolute blessing of being in this special place, always understanding that it might be my last time.
While traveling the Teller Highway on 19 August, I decided to just pull the car over and take a walk-about on the open tundra to my left. It wasn’t a comfortable stroll as joy of the bounce (Walking on tundra can sometimes feel like walking on a bed) was masked by the crevasses, most well hidden by plant growth, between large rocks that for an old guy could certainly be hip shattering.
As I decided to take a break on a small jagged outcropping of rock, my mind started to wonder if another human had ever sat here before and if so, what was their state of mind. Were they hungry and on the hunt with the pressure of knowing that they needed one more caribou or muskox for their family to survive the winter, or just an old guy with a camera taking full advantage of the one forecasted sunny day of their entire visit.
As I sat with my mind in full wonderment mode, a small flock of 10-12 Snow Buntings landed several yards out ahead. I must have been still for some time as they had thousands of other landing options in the thousands of visible acres of open tundra around me. I took this shot as it is a new species for this kid, sat my camera down and decided to commune with my little blessings, having a berry or two myself.
Adventure before dementia.

This is Singapore Changi Airport, shot with my old Canon Powershot.
What started as a bit of fun to relieve the boredom as we waited for our flight turned into a photographic challenge. The Powershot isn't really comfortable shooting at low shutter speeds and the shutter lag feels like 10 minutes but I got some reasonable pictures (though I did take quite a few).
