If you ever find yourself in Hanoi, make sure to visit the Thu Sy Commune in Hung Yen Province. It’s only about an hour outside the city. There you will meet Mr. Luong Son Bac. At almost 80 years old, he is one of the last skilled craftsmen in Vietnam still making bamboo fish and shrimp traps. He uses his knife and teeth to peel strips of bamboo which are then used to weave into the various types of traps. It takes about an hour of weaving to make one trap. Back when many people in the countryside made their living from growing rice, they would supplement their income by catching fish and shrimps to sell, hence the need for these traps.

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend. On this day, on my way to the city, an unexpected blanket of cold air settled over the lakefront, enveloping it in thick fog. Fortunately, I had my drone with me and managed to capture a few images and a video of this stunning scene. Enjoy!

Fuiken boven de smalle straatjes van het mooie stadje Elburg. De visnetten hingen boven de straten vanwege de Botterdagen die in september plaatsvonden. Dan staat het vestingstadje in het teken van botters, monumenten, vis en ambacht.

Fish traps above the narrow streets of the beautiful town of Elburg. The fishing nets hung above the streets because of the Botterdagen that took place in September. Then the fortified town is all about botters, monuments, fish and crafts.

a prison is anything that confines
is any space made small by the
circumstance of our life
a prison need not be physical
no bars or locks are needed
to restrain our freedom
freedom is a state of mind
that can only be claimed
by a stout heart
only courage breeches the walls
we encounter, only valour
can set us free

Slightly eerie first thing in the morning surrounded by these conifers - as if they might trap you as well as this larch! The golden colour does stand out of the darkness however, although I wanted to preserve some of that eerie feeling in processing.
