Man is the only kind of varmint who sets his own trap, baits it, then steps on it.

If you ever find yourself in Hanoi, make sure to visit the Thu Sy Commune in Hung Yen Province. It’s only about an hour outside the city. There you will meet Mr. Luong Son Bac. At almost 80 years old, he is one of the last skilled craftsmen in Vietnam still making bamboo fish and shrimp traps. He uses his knife and teeth to peel strips of bamboo which are then used to weave into the various types of traps. It takes about an hour of weaving to make one trap. Back when many people in the countryside made their living from growing rice, they would supplement their income by catching fish and shrimps to sell, hence the need for these traps.

366: The 2016 Edition-Framing

In The Style Of Georgia O'Keeffe.

A Trapped Bird Feather. It's wet, it just rained a little.

The wonderful Spring weather sprung itself on the first Sunday of April and hordes of people flocked to the waterfalls. I had to bypass Lower Purgatory and Garwin Falls due to the overflowing parking lots. I had to wait out the crowds to get this clear shot.

Trapped myself in a town that is not mine. Thinking of my home town

The eyes are still struggling to process the incoming morning light that makes its way through the wholes in the heavy curtain covering the old windows. But after hours of sleep, the body is still feeling exhausted. And so it motionlessly stays under the comfortable sheets.

However, the brain is already pretty much awake, and thoughts are running at full speed. They deal with the gray veil covering the once so colorful presence that brought worries, concerns, and a lack of prospects. As there is no change in sight, the feeling of being trapped caused the motivation to get lost on the way.

Lately, every day is like the previous one and the one before or the one before that. This makes it feel like a mash of infinite repetition within the own four walls. It became challenging to fight against this boring endless loop’s monotony when feeling trapped.

Yet, there will be brighter times to come, even if it doesn’t look like this at the moment. And so, the stiff body slowly begins to straighten up under the warm blanket also on this morning. As the feet slowly touch the cold floor, it becomes clear that there is still a glimpse of hope that the apparent situation might soon pass for the better.

a prison is anything that confines

is any space made small by the

circumstance of our life

a prison need not be physical

no bars or locks are needed

to restrain our freedom

freedom is a state of mind

that can only be claimed

by a stout heart

only courage breeches the walls

we encounter, only valour

can set us free

A crab pots or lobster pots bokeh style

Slightly eerie first thing in the morning surrounded by these conifers - as if they might trap you as well as this larch! The golden colour does stand out of the darkness however, although I wanted to preserve some of that eerie feeling in processing.
